Ok I'm curious.
When I spoke to the 'new' hairdresser at my moms carehome, she informed me that once an elderly persons hair is set, it doesn't need to be brushed out for 7 days. I questioned her, saying the scalp should need some stimulation. But she said no, just fluff her hair with a pic each day.

Is that true?

Weird!

If an elderly person does nothing but sits in one place maybe their hair can stay sprayed into place but Yuk!! This hairdresser is operating on practices that were current 20 to 30 years ago. What do you think ?
>You need to talk to your mothers nurse about what kind of care and grooming assistance she needs. What does your mother want?

Nursing home patients typically get too little care and attention. You need to advocate for her to get more assistance and more face to face time with facility staff.

My hairdresser says that the scalp needs to be 'exercised'
The best way to do this is by letting the wind blow through your hair or for those who are mostly in doors to blow dry your hair near the scalp 2-3 times a week.

As far as your mom, I would try to do what ever it is she did with her hair previously.

Thanks everyone. I think the hairdresser doesn't want her hair brushed because of the 'set'. However, I still disagree with her and will try to ensure moms hair is brushed daily.
