For a getaway, a friend and I are considering a short bus trip to Atlantic City. We would use the coin bonus at the casino, but otherwise don't gamble. So is there anything worth doing within walking distance? It would be in Oct. or Nov. Thanks.

Just walking the Boardwalk or the beach can be nice although it will be a bit cool in October and November. There's also The Walk (outlet stores) behind Caesars, or The Pier Shops (stores and restaurants) in front of Caesars. On the south side of the Pier Shops on the 2nd floor (or 3rd...I forget) there's a long row of Adirondack chairs and high windows. It's a great place to relax and watch the ocean. There's also an indoor fountain show once an hour at the very end of the shops.

You can visit The Irish Pub for lunch: http://www.theirishpub.com/html.htm

And here's another link that may help you out: http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/

Have fun!

You might want to avoid the days of the NJ Teachers' Convention, when Atlantic City gets fairly crowded--the end of the first week of November. I can't remember the exact dates, but November 6 and 7th or thereabouts?

Or you might want to go then, when Atlantic City has a fairly wholesome crowd visiting.

Near the Showboat casino (at one end of the Boardwalk) there is a small museum of art (could be fun for 10 minutes depending on the exhibit) ,and a historical museum about AC. Both free. Historical has some early Miss America memorabilia.

The interiors/themes of some of the casinos can be amusing, worth checking out.
I also like walking the Boardwalk ; you can go for miles past Hilton (the opposite end of the Boardwalk 'strip' from Showboat) into other towns and look at some lovely homes and get away from the honky tonk.

If you want to get to see the three casino hotels which are not on the Boardwalk, you can take the jitney - a little public bus that runs along the first street behind the Boardwalk, cost is $2.25 a trip, different colored routes for different destinations , clearly marked for Borgata, Harrahs and Trump Marina.

New Jersey School Board Association 2008
The NJ School Boards annual convention in Atlantic City is scheduled for October 28 - 30, 2008 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

We will be there starting Nov 7 for the week. Will check out the Irish Pub and there is a place in the shops that is suppose to have good Philly Steak Cheese. My sister thinks it's the Pizza Place there

Just thinking maybe just get breakfast food and some snacks for the condo and go out to eat lunch and dinner. Any good reasonably places? plus we will probably do the buffet at the Borgata one time, walk the boardwalk, shops, check out the casinos and go to Cape May. (Will Nov be too late)

I googled nj teachers convention and came up with the Oct dates. Maybe this is different then the one in Nov.

Doesn't matter...... We have a room booked already (RCI exchange) and most would be gone by the weekend anyways I am thinking.

Yes, the teachers' convention is different from the school board convention. And much bigger, too, I think.

Consider taking the jitney to The Borgata Hotel and Casino. It's a great place to walk around, gape, shop, etc...It has the best buffet in town. Many of the selections approach gourmet level and the atmoshere is very pleasant and comfortable. Lots of food is cooked to order in front of you. Apply for a Players club card (free) and you will receive great comp offers for future visits. I find them to be the most generous of all the casinos re: free rooms, slot dollars, show tickets, etc... even if you do very minimal play, especially Between Labor Day and Memorial Day, which is the slow season.

Will you be coming in on a Greyhound bus to the AC terminal, or taking one of the almost free buses that bring you right to the casino? They stop at different locations. If you let me know where you will be arriving and departing, I can give you some good tips. Are you coming and going on the same day? If so, you will probably have only 6-7 hours max so it will limit your choices. But if you will be staying for a day or two, then there are far more options.

If you come on a non-holiday Monday through Thursday, you may be able to get a free room at a casino. Do you have a players card from any casino from a past visit? Even if you did very little play, they may offer you a free or deeply discounted room if you call and ask. No harm in trying. Business is off sharply due to the economic situation and they have many vacant rooms. Or you might be able to get a cheap deal from RCI or one of their travel partners for a night or two at the Wyndham Fairfield Skyline Towers or the Atlantic Palace.

We are going Wed. Dec. 10. It's a local bus company sponsoring the trip. Have not even received the hours of departure and arrival. We will see a Christmas show, but don't know the time!!!
Before we leave I will revisit this thread to use some suggestions.
