We're having a wonderful week in Sedona. I'll write a review as soon as we get home. The resort is beautiful and the staff great. There is just so much to do. We have already been up in a balloon and will do the Pink jeep in the morning. The beauty is awesome! We move to Marriott's Canyon Villas next week and come home as soon as UGA plays Arizona State. We got off the plane and went straight to a bar to watch the DAWGS play with the Phoenix Bulldog club. They made us feel right at home. So far, this is a wonderful trip!

Will be at Arroyo Robles next month. What is the weather like now? If you want a beautiful place to have lunch, try Enchantment Resort outside sitting. It is sooooo mesmorizing with those red rocks.

Is traffic horrible?

Weather had been in high 80's or 90's. The weekend was hotter. We haven't had any rain. Traffic is not bad even though the entire town is under road constrution. Getting out of Phoenix we hit a little slow traffic due to construction but not bad. We plan on eating at Enchantment before we leave. We have had a couple of "home style" meals at Cafe Jose next to McDonalds. We had turkey with stuffing and all the trimmings Sunday for $7.99. We'll eat here on property tonight. It's time for the jeep to pick us up. We also had a lecture on red rocks here yesterday. It was great.

Hi Janette,
We're heading for Arroyo Roble this Saturday. Can't wait! Can you give us any more recommendations on places to eat?
Thanks, Deb from NC

We're headed out to Enchantment for lunch today. We have eaten two meals at Cafe Jose. They have inexpensive well-balanced meals. We had the prime rib special here at the resort and ate at Cameron trade post on the way to the Grand Canyon yesterday. We Red Rock balloon trip, Pink Jeep Broken Arrow and Scenic rim tour, Verde Canyon rail trip, and Red Stone Grand Canyon tours are all great. The Grand Canyon tour stopped at Sunset Crater for us to view the lava formations(very different than the Big Island), Indian ruins, lunch at the trading post and then Eastern and Southern views of the canyon. At the southern rim we were given an opportunity for about a 2 mile walk along the rim. Our only regret is that we haven't had time to take part in the fitness classes offered at the resort. We have felt like this has been one of our most educational trips. We did visit Jerome before our train ride on Wed. We head for Marriott's Canyon Villas tomorrow and hopefully will be able to report from there. GO DAWGS!!

With regard to the question about traffic. If you're staying at Los Abrigados it might seem like the whole town is under construction. The fact is that the hwy 179 project is proceeding ahead of schedule, but at this time the big focus is on the stretch between Chapel Rd and the Y and so when you pull out of Los Abrigados you'll encounter construction in both directions on the road.
The good news is that the construction of the the two new round abouts at the Y is finished and the back ups that we had to deal with for about 2 months there, are over. Traffic moves smoothly now and delays are minimal. Don't be afraid of the road construction activity. It will not have a significant impact on your Sedona vacation experience.

Construction has caused no problems. I know the locals are ready for the project to be completed. So sad that we are leaving the red rocks!!

RedRox: If we can schedule our arrival to Sedona from Santa Fe easily, what times are best to come thru the 'mountain' to Arroyo Roble to avoid as much traffic as we can?

When coming to Sedona from Santa Fe and points north, you typically come down through Oak Creek Canyon on hwy 89A. This is certainly a fabulous way to enter the town. Since Oak Creek Canyon is a popular destination during the day, especially in the summer and fall, there tends to be a mass exodus from the canyon, back into Sedona in the mid to late afternoon. This is more of an issue on weekend days and holidays than ever.
So if you can avoid arriving on a weekend day between 3and 5PM, then you shouldn't have any traffic issues at all.

I also just came back from Sedona. If you're looking for a bargain (I always am :D ), pick up a coupon book at the Chamber of Commerce. It costs $10 and it has a 10% off coupon for the Pink Jeep tours, and several other discount coupons for the other jeep companies. We used a number of the dining coupons too.

One place we visited that I don't recall seeing anyone else mentioning is Red Rock Crossing. It's a state park, off Upper Red Rock loop, off 89A. There are places to swim and wade in Oak Creek, while surrounded by Cathedral rock and other beautiful formations. We were told about it by one of the volunteers at the Chamber of Commerce.

Also, if you're planning to go to Slide Rock state park, bring small bills because it was an $8 self-pay when we were there and we didn't have anything smaller than a $20. We did find someone who had two $10 bills. I was in my bathing suit and went down the rocks at least 10 times. My thighs got a pretty good case of road rash so I'd recommend bringing some solid jean shorts for sliding.

We had a wonderful time and kept ourselves busy every day!

Sue
