All,

This is my first visit to HHV -- wow -- what a great spot. This is a nice blend of the opportunities of Waikiki combined with a quieter (West end of Waikiki) location.

I really like this property. I spent a little time today at Grand Waikikian, because I'm a curious guy. Interestingly, every sales rep was Japanese (and there is nothing wrong with that). Grand Waikikian is a great property, beautiful spot and models, and I like them but our Lagoon room is really nice too and has a much superior view and general location. We are in Room # 1668 -- the 16th floor is nice, but the dreaded Room 68.

I'd even called (twice) and asked not to be in Room 68 -- but I was combined an HGVC Open Season reservation with an RCI trade, so I can't really complain -- they did put me on 16th floor -- a beautiful view!

I really like the property -- great location, very nice pools and Hilton really has done a nice job with the common amenities. I will definitely be back....

Best,

Greg

Greg,

You're supposed to be enjoying Hawaii, not posting reviews. Although I guess its okay if you were posting during one of the afternoon showers.

Enjoy your stay and spend lots of money, we need of.

Greg,

When we stayed at Lagoon Tower, we used the lounge at Grand Waikikian on our checkout day to shower after an afternoon on the beach and took advantage of complimentary snacks before leaving for the airport.

Do you plan to check out Aulani?

I would like to check out Aulani, but this has turned out to be a quick trip because of work reasons. It turns out that I'm only here thru Tuesday and then have to return home (anyone want a 1BR in HHV for Wed-Fri?)

But I'm glad I came because I really wanted to see the property. I'm going to Aulani in 2013 due to a Direct Exchange with TUGger Slum808, and I'm excited for the trip.

Steve, thanks for the thoughts above too -- we'll do our part to stimulate the Hawaii economy!

Best,

Greg

What is wrong with 68?

Room 68 is smaller than the other 1BR's because it is next to the emergency stairwell (which encroaches on where the kitchen should be). Accordingly, they moved the kitchen over next to the bathroom, and stole space from both the bedroom and bathroom to wedge in the kitchen. It feels disjointed.

However, the view of the marina is beautiful and there isn't an adjacent balcony to partially block the view, since we are the furthest forward unit with a balcony. So there are advantages to the room. I wouldn't mind staying again in 68, but will still request the Diamond Head side next time because of the larger unit space, but also I suspect its view is beautiful also, from DougP's pictures.

I reiterate earlier comments, I'm really impressed with HHV. It was an easy walk to outstanding restaurants and yet is partly separated from the density of Waikiki. The pools are very nice and Waikiki itself is a great beach.

Best,

Greg

Other Room 68 problems

I posted about this a couple of years ago during a stay in the Lagoon Tower. We were in Room 68 on the 4th floor, and it was really loud from down in the pool area. We couldn't hang out on our lanai, or even leave the sliding glass door open, it was so loud. I wrote something about it on these boards, someone suggested I complain and try to get a room change, and they did it! We went to the other side and it was totally different. It was so much quieter, more peaceful, we spent a lot more time out on the lanai, and had a wonderful 5 remaining days in a different room. Maybe when you're really high up it's not that big of a difference, but down low, it was really loud.

Also, the room was demonstrably smaller. Some of the drawers couldn't even open or be used because the kitchen was so cramped. When we went to the other side, it was as if we got ourselves one more room in the place.
