I am 4 days in my 2 week stay at Grande Vista (my third visit). Everything has been perfect up to tonight. You might recall a previous post of mine where I had read some really terrible reviews on TA about this resort that caused me concerns. I am happy to report that there was absolutely no basis for those negative reviews. The property is gorgeous, the staff and service has been excellent.

Tonight, on my way back to my room after attending a comedy show and “boozy bingo”, I stopped by the pool to watch the football game that was being broadcasted on the large screen TV. If you are familiar with Grande Vista, you know what I am talking about.

There was a group of people in the pool along with their child, possibly 3 or 4 years old, who were highly intoxicated. Their behavior and vile language was extremely offensive. They were screaming at each other and exchanging obscenities. The phrase MF was used extensively. I am a no nonsense person and will not tolerate such disgusting behavior so I got up and went looking for security. Two security guards and what appeared to be a manager came out and went directly to speak with the family. I couldn’t hear what was said but one of the security guard afterwards came up to me and said the matter had been addressed and a warning had been issued . And with that, they left. The family stayed in the pool and continued their shouting and dropping the F bomb until they left the premises about 20 minutes later.

I am astonished that this kind of vile behavior is tolerated at a Marriott property. I feel that I, along with every other owner who pays top dollars to vacation at a premium property should not be subjected to such indecent behavior.

Something else that bothered me is that people who witnessed this just sat by shaking their heads but no one, other than me, thought of reporting them.

I don’t know who I am most upset at, Marriott staff or, sadly, us as a society. Just needed to vent.

While not to the same extent, we had a similar issue at Westin Desert Willow a few weeks ago. We were in the QUIET POOL. A large group of young men came, yelling and making comments about the quiet pool. Proceeding to run and jump in the pool. Talk loud and overall being disruptive to what is supposed to be a quiet pool. One of the other people in the pool told them to be quiet, it didn’t really work. THen a security guard walked through and we said something to them. He woudln’t have said anything if we hadn’t asked and he could clearly tell they were a problem. If we had our phone with us with the text number in it for the resort, we would have texted them. In the future, I will always have the cell with me with the text number already set in it before going down to the pool. This way I can just text the resort and they can come and take care of things. In this situation you could have texted multiple times until the situation was resolved.

This is more a situation of society, but security really shouldn’t have just walked off knowing the situation. I am not about to start a personal confrontation while in a pool. You never know what could happen.

The other night at the Seattle Waterfront Marriott, I could tell someone was smoking pot on their balcony. In a non smoking hotel. We were in our room with the balcony door closed and I could smell it. I looked out, could see them on the balcony and yelled “whoever is smoking needs to stop”. They quickly retreated into their room. Their balcony was at least 6-7 rooms away.

Agree, resort pools should be a sanctuary from discussion of Maintenance Fees.

Shocking. It might be the first time this has ever happened anywhere in the world. If it happens again please post the details.

I am not sure if your posts are sarcastic? Resort pools at a family resort should be a sanctuary from excessive profanity. We’re all just here sharing experiences, no one is making you be here to read them…

Agreed, MFs are excessively profane, and we should all share our experiences, without anyone making us read them, especially in a pool sanctuary.

I'd place more blame on the parents of the perpetrators for the sub-human characters that they created, than Marriott Vacation Club.

Fall Season in Orlando is a "non-Marriott exchangers paradise" at MVC's Orlando resorts, particularly a monster, like GrandeVista. Hence, the economic/socioeconomic bar of the guests, is likely lower, than, for example, peak sesaon. Hence, a rise in Trailer Trash.

I was thinking the same thing. The ignore button can be such a blessing at times.

It’s unfortunate that there is little consideration given to others in a public setting. Last night we went out to dinner and had an elderly couple (as if we aren’t elderly ourselves) with their laptop, Skyping with someone loud enough the conversation could be heard by the entire restaurant.

We’ve run into people smoking where they’re not suppose to smoke. People faking service animals. People faking infirmity to jump the line to board a plane. If you call them out you’re the aggressor and they’re the victim.

It’s certainly a strange world we live in today.

As to TripAdvisor, I’ve mostly stopped using them. It’s nearly impossible to trust the reviews on that site. It seems to me to many peop,e have an agenda. I stopped reading when a group of posters rated a MVC timeshare 1 star because they stopped feeding the feral cats (that was the extent of their review) and TripAdvisor refused to take those reviews down. There was nothing about the resort other than they stopped intentionally feeding and attracting the feral cats.

Tripadvisor is no good for reviews of timeshares. In the past I have read to many negative posts about minor issues such as no late check out, hotel rewards program benefits not being extended, room not ready before 4pm, no free daily maid service and no room service. All of which are standard at a timeshare and typically are mentioned on the hotel website, if only anyone aver actually read the hotel site when booking a rental.

I look at TA extensively when trying to gather information on a location but one does have to read with skepticism. I would never rely on TA as the only set of information for making timeshare decisions. For timeshares, most people just don't get it and it shows on TA. IMO TA's saving grace is it's breath of information and it's volume. From a quality standpoint they certainly are lacking.

Give him a break, he just got out of the pool. ;)

1. It may be people who are more well off and feel that because they pay top dollar they can do what they want.

2. Less well of people are not necessarily trash.

3. The poor behavior of these people are not reflective of their class. It is a reflection of their mindset.

I believe @goaliedave was making a joke because the OP said "The phrase MF was used extensively" -- so he went with Maintenance Fees rather than the profanity that could be abbreviated to MF.

I thought it was funny and saw things got a little tense, so I thought I'd clarify.

Yes, I would say that both of your observations are 100% on target.

Sorry, too many commas, I know,
I bet the disrespect was from a guest and not a highly respected member. Guests sometimes exhibit unwarranted behavior. Sorry, off topic. The posting is about unwarranted behavior at the Grande Vista.

It's really sad that bad behavior is becoming the rule rather than the exception. I've observed more inconsiderate timeshare guests, travelers, and people in restaurants in the past two years than I'd seen previously in my lifetime. Here is another example from our local paper today about fans at NFL games.

?????? I am glad I am not the only one who is confused by your replies.

There were a couple. It was a nice pun on words or rather acronym.

I don't think that anyone on this tread feels profanity is acceptable nor desirable, but it's good to get a laugh every now and then.

I think this is the new normal. It's probably best to avoid direct confrontation at almost all cost, especially young and drunk. ou can search the internet for people confronting others and it goes poorly for the confronter.

There are subcultures in the US where Profanity, Pot and violence are celebrated as normal behavior. It is amazing how it has gotten worse, and morals have slipped even in the last decade.

Now if I was a group of 20 and there were only a couple of them... (Sarcasm alert- I don't intend to go to JAIL).

What I find particularly disturbing in reading the OP's account (besides the obvious behavior and profanity) is that security walked away when there was a 3 year old child by a pool with parents clearly too intoxicated to supervise. Pool safety should have been on their radar!!
Many years ago we were at a beautiful mountaintop restaurant on Mt. Rainier, with an outdoor deck attached to an unprotected cliff. We were outside with our daughters enjoying the sunset, and some parents of a 2 year old were outside, drinks in hand, but not the toddler's hand. Oblivious, they didn't flinch when their 2 year old ran out onto the ledge. Our 12 year old reacted and ran after the toddler (with me screaming and running behind her) and caught her maybe a foot from the edge. After returning her to her parents, we went inside and alerted the manager, who spoke with the parents. Yet the parents stayed outside, child still left unrestrained despite a very dangerous setting, and we watched the sunset from indoors, since I wasn't going to chance one of my daughters getting hurt trying to save a running toddler. I've always wondered how management didn't take more caution then.
If nothing else, Marriott personnel should be more vigilant for liability issues.

I have a home in a timeshare resort, there are two sections of homes and the children of the mega millionaires have been moving in. They are very entitled. Most don’t purchase a golf membership, just jump out with several friends in their golf carts. you can be playing a round and suddenly there are six to eight golf carts in front of you, loaded with golfers, kids, and dogs, playing loud music, just playing a few holes.
My daughters house is on one hole and one night at one in the morning they were all on the green, headlights on all the carts facing her house, music blaring. She came out on the deck and they yelled at her that they had big money riding on this putt.
what’s even worse, they let their little kids drive these carts. We have steep hills and here are kids barely seeing over the steering wheel, some on six seater carts, driving straight at you.
so tourists aren’t the only inconsiderate people.

I've seen way worse BTW, but at the end of the day, it's really difficult to police alcohol consumption other than at the on site bar. I also know that some people don't have any manners, common sense, or just don't care. Those people are just trash IMO, but I promise that Marriott doesn't screen them out when selling timeshares or taking hotel reservations.
