We travel to Aruba every year and have thought of purchasing a timeshare for the past two years. We have finally decided to get one to use for a family trip. My husband and I travel around 6-8 weeks a year and both have flexible schedules. I have been reading the boards day and night since finding them. Our choices in Aruba are the Surf Club or Playa Linda. While Playa Linda is much older and smaller I love the location near the Hyatt and Radisson (which is where we usually stay). However the Marriott properties are beautifully done and much nicer.

Could anyone tell me what a good price (with incentives) would be for a 2 bedroom gold season new property from the developer? Do they negociate on cash deals? We won't need one until 2007. Other than new I think we would look for a resale as others have suggested.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Marriott will not negotiate on price. So, if you're leaning towards a Marriott property you're better off buying resale...the only problem is that resale availability is probably quite limited now. Keep in mind that you forfeit your right to participate in the points program if you don't purchase from Marriott.

As far as developer incentives at the Marriott...bonus week(s), points for purchasing, alternate usage points, self-referral points, points if you charge your purchase to a Marriott Rewards VISA, etc. I was able to negotiate approximately 500,000 Marriot points when I purchased pre-construction at the Surf Club.

My experience with Marriot is that they're not very flexable...so, you pretty much get only what they offer. After market (resale) will certainly yield more competitive pricing. My thoughts...we generally get what we pay for...your money = your choice.

Thank you all. I feel like I have taken a graduate course in Timeshare. If we buy a Marriott property it will definately be a resale at this point. Already spoke with the telesales person at Marriott who was very helpful but stated that they do not negociate price. I have over 200000 points banked with Marriott already that I haven not used yet.

We will be on our way Saturday for some needed RnR and sun.

Thanks again.

I second calling Seth Nock. He will get your the best price. We bought ARuba from him, too.
