We are going to Ocean Club in Feb/09. This makes me nervous. Should we cancel? We are going for the beach & the water!!! Last time we were there was December, 2000 & we spent all day, every day in the water & on the beach. Will be able to do the same this time? Any comments from Owners or Hotel Guests who have been there recently?

Like everything else in life "this to shall pass". Yes, seaweed has been a problem for the past couple of months and Marriott is doing it's best to get rid of it. I remember seeing a photo after Omah came close to the island and of heavy equipment in removing it. Changing winds and tides? An act of a "higher power"? In regard to the generators OC members will love to hear this another capital improvement for their budget on top of the special assessments that they now have to pay for the leaking roof. If you were stateside and the power company provider lost the feed to your home would you get compensated? I don't think so. A minor disruption in your stay. Glad to hear the Lazy River is back up and running and in the post there was no complaints about the OC or hotel pools. Smooth Air a lot can happen in 3 months and I would not cancel. Remember Aruba is one happy island! The problems will work there way out.

We just got back from the Surf Club. The lazy river was running just fine. At times it was very crowded, not many people going in the ocean. The ocean floor at the Surf Club was very mushy, but if you go out far enough it's not too bad. Just don't touch bottom. A couple times my foot sunk into some mushy mess. There also wasn't many people in the water in front of the Ocean Club. The hotel had people in their water. I also saw some people from our area walk over to the hotel and get in over there.

The water did have a rotten egg smell, especially when you stepped in the mushy stuff.

We went to the beach up by the lighthouse one day, Arashi or Malmok (always get them mixed up) and it was beautiful. Nice sandy bottom and clear waters. Baby beach was wonderful too.

It wasn't just the Marriott beach, it was worse in front of the Holiday Inn. It did seem to be a little bit better towards the end of our trip. I think it will clear up more and more as time passes.

Did anyone go over to the "low rise" (Eagle Beach) area? I actually prefer the beach over there to the Marriott's Palm Beach but I am not sure if the smell/mush affected that area.
