Hey, friends. My sister turns 50 at the end of January and is discussing a trip from Oregon to Arizona to celebrate with more sun than we have here. 4-5 days, flying into Phoenix. She used to live in Flagstaff. Suggestions for a good resort to try and pick up a rental-nice pool is a perk. Doesn’t have to be in Phoenix. She likes to hike, and I’m hoping for some relaxation.

Sedona is great, however they too can have some snow there. (Quiet there this time of year.) A pool might not be possible but also consider a hot tub!

Tuscon. Lots of hiking and an active Audubon group that you can join for field trips. Flying into Tucson can be cheaper with lower rental car fees. Weather not an issue. I really liked the Starr Pass Golf suites perched on a hill with a trailhead for the Tucson Man Park just up the road. They had 2 BR lockoffs in duplex type buildings. We didn't use the pool. I've also stayed at the Worldmark north of town and they are large comfortable units.
I've been in Sedona in Jan and it can be a bit dodgy weather wise. We arrived a few days after a big snowstorm. The hiking was wonderful with snow on the red rocks, but if our exchange had been the week before, it would have been a challenge. The town is pretty quiet with lots of stores shut down for the month.

So would late January and early February be a good time to visit Arizona?

Are you looking just at timeshares? Most Sedona resorts have outdoor pools that are open in the winter, and you can't beat the hiking around Sedona! December/January is our favorite time of the year there. We always hope for a bit of snow on the red rocks, but it never lasts long. Maybe try Hyatt's Pinon Pointe? For Phoenix area timeshares, a trip with friends at the Four Seasons Residence Club @ Troon in Scottsdale or the Westin Kierland would be my choices!

AZ is like Florida in the winter. It can be 75 or 50's during the day. Mornings and evenings are significantly cooler. We bike and hike in Tucson every day. There is also a great bike/walking trail goes about 60 miles. Tucson is much nicer for outdoor activities than Phoenix. Phoenix hikes are extremely crowded. We wail until mid March to go to Sedona.
