I was on the Arizona Memorial website http://www.nps.gov/usar/planyourvisit/things2know.htm and noticed they changed the dress requirement. I remember reading that open toe footwear was not allowed.

Dress Attire
Civilian: The minimum dress attire for the USS Arizona Memorial is footwear, shorts and shirt. Sandals and Flip Flops are permissible, but bathing suits or profane T-shirts are not allowed on-site.

Must of changed recently. I did read that bags, purses, camera bags etc. are still not permitted.

I think open-toed shoes have always been OK - they were OK when we were there 6 or 7 years ago.

our government a work

I've posted this previously.

When we visited we paid the fee to lock up my purse in their trailer as required. DH had his camera in a leather case. The guard asked what it was and DH told him that it was his camera. The guard let him pass without opening the case. So much for security.

We were there last month and saw many people in flip flops. Also girls in bikini tops, but they were covered with tank tops. Security was stopping anyone with a bag. I would also advise against women wearing skirts or dresses as it was very windy on the memorial.

I do not see a dress code in the brochure. We were there last month on a Saturday. The line was huge, but it moved fast! Get to the park as early as possible. The last tour is at 3 p.m. so the line to the entrance was closed around 12:30 to 1 p.m. the day of our visit. I would highly recommend the audio tour, while you are waiting for the documentary and ferry to the Arizona Memorial. For more information contact http://www.nps.gov/usar or call 808-422-2771 or 808-422-0561.

From their website:

Military: The minimum dress attire for military personnel is dress whites or better, or service equivalent. BDU'S are not allowed on the memorial.
