So I got into my car the other day for the first time in three weeks and it really felt very strange to drive. I don't think I've driven a total of 20 miles in the last month.

How many miles have some of you driven in the last month?

The good news is I received an email from my Insurance carrier (Progressive Insurance) and they'll be sending me an automatic financial rebate due to the Corona Virus situation around the Country.

Has anyone else received money back from their insurance carrier? Did you have to ask for it or was it automatically sent to you?

I have State Farm. I probably shouldn’t get a discount. I’m not driving any less.

I think the State Farm discount is going to everyone.

We have Mercury Insurance and we are getting a 15% rebate for two months (to start). Our driving is way, way down but when I do go into the office I feel like I am taking my life in my hands as the freeways have turned into the autobahn. People are driving extra fast since there is no traffic.

15% Credit for Auto Customers
We’re all working together to slow the spread of COVID-19 with many of us staying home more, driving less, and as a result experiencing fewer accidents. To support our auto insurance customers during this unprecedented time, we are providing an automatic credit in May.
Customers do not need to take any action to receive this benefit, it is automatic.

How It Works
  • Our auto customers will receive a credit of 15% of their premium from 3/16/20 – 4/30/20.
  • The credit will be applied in May and applied to the next payment due or the next renewal payment.
  • The credit will be applied automatically, no action is necessary.
In addition to this credit for our auto insurance customers, we are also extending our coverage to include delivery services.

Yes, since we are both in stay at home isolation except for short trips for essentials, I decided just yesterday to park one vehicle permanently in the garage and took off all coverage excepting fire and theft for a savings of about 50%. I reduced our other vehicle to pleasure driving only for a discount of 15%. The savings won't fund another vacation when we are able to travel again, but the monthly savings will cover a weeks groceries and a couple bottles of wine. Was told to call back at least a week before I wished to resume coverage to ensure coverage when I need it.

Meemic is issuing rebates, but hasn’t said how much it will be. Another tip to saving on insurance is putting a car under storage insurance. We have 3 cars and 2 haven’t been driven in at least 3 weeks (one over a month). We are putting my wife’s car in storage insurance. It won’t be able to be driven, but since I’m the only one that leaves the house, it makes sense. They will still have comprehensive coverage in case something happens while they are sitting there. This will save us over $200 a month.

Great minds think alike.

After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
We have American Family Insurance for our home & autos. We received $50/covered personal automobile as a rebate last week. The $100 was a nice gesture.

We use CSAA, and i just got an email that they will be refunding 20% of the March and April premiums. They will adjust if the SIP order is extended.

They will either reduce your monthly bill, or since we pay annually they will refund to our method of payment.

I just received an email from AAA insurance today indicating that they will issue 20% discount on 2 months of rebate on our auto insurance in May.

Us too. 20% times 16.67% of year times $800 = $25.56! Wahoo! But we did get a $25 California Energy Credit on the gas bill this month, too.

As soon as my company told me I was going to be working from home, I changed my deductible to $1000 from $500. My rate went down 30%. Been working from home for over a month now and I’ll probably be working from home until June. Once I know I’ll be going to my office, I’ll change my deductible and pay my regular rate. My insurer didn’t issue any additional discounts though. Hopefully I’ll see a rate deduction when I renew.

It will be interesting to see how much of the rebate will be eaten up by a "rate increase" upon renewal. Yes, I am a cynic when it comes to insurance companies.
