Most of us on TUG are all faceless screennames with good or bad attitudes and maybe a few 'friends' acquired through TUG.

Was wondering, has anyone ever discovered that they actually knew someone (friend, colleague, family member, etc.) from outside of TUG that they later learned was a TUGger? Honestly, I would assume that it is rare.

Even if I found out a friend was on TUG, I am doubtful that I'd share my screenname.

Do people who you were in a heated ebay bidding situation count? Yes, I won the timeshare week for $2211. And a year or two later, had the other person figure out midway thru the "float in the pool" conversation shout "you were the ONE who got that week for $2211!".

Later, I found out he was a Tugger also.

doubt it. most people I know think I'm nuts to have timeshares. Even family that benefits from it.

I believe there is only one person from TUG that I've met in person, but they no longer post here, so, guess I don't know anyone!

back to anonymity ....

None of my friends, family or DW, would have anything to do with TUG.
It would take up too much of their time.

They say that no group that accepted me as a member could be worth joining.

Not on here...but I was posting once on the DISboards and was shocked to see another poster had a picture of himself with his arms around my husband's cousin as his avatar...it was nice to find a family member who was as Disney crazy as we are.

But as far as timeshares go, everyone thinks we are crazy, and sadly, the word is considered a bad one...

even old tax customers of mine (after years of hearing me going on and on about resale) would come to me at tax time and tell me they purchased from the developer...and since I can't tell them how I really feel about it, I'll say, well, that is OK, now we need to get you to TUG and they tell me they don't need it, the salesperson told them everything they needed to know about how to use their timeshare.......:wall:

I own HGVC & after I bought my first one I found out a lady I work with also owned one, so I began to talk to her about it. She had bought from the developer because she wanted to own the same place as her sister. I told her about the resale market and have given her the tug web address many times.

She did listen to me about resale & couldn't wait to tell me about the HGVC ebay purchase she got for dirt cheap.

She is also always impressed with how much I know about the HGVC system & how to work it, as well as RCI to get some great exchanges. I've told her mutliple times its from all the research I've done - mainly TUG. She has yet to check out TUG or ever do an exchange to stay anywhere outside the HGVC system, but at least she did listed to me about the resale market!

I've sent quite a few friends this way but they all would rather that I tell them what they need to know since I'm such an "expert". ;)

I'd be surprised if I ever saw a friend here. Too lazy to do their own homework. Much easier to just bug the crap out of me instead. :annoyed:

I don't know of any family members here, but I'd hope some of you are my friends: I know for a fact I've slept in the same bed as a number of you people. Just not at the same time...

I have met a couple of people who I first "met" online here on TUG. I know that none of my family are here and doubt anyone I know from my non-timeshare life are members of TUG.

My friends and family already think I spend enough money racing motorcycles. If they knew this too...Im sure an intervention would be scheduled. :ignore:

My family think I'm nuts to have got rid of my Bus RV and now to be "into" timeshares - until I hook them up with a nice week. :p

Of my friends and co-workers only 2 even knew what a timeshare is past "oh, those things they try to sell you in Vegas". :p

One co worker bought 2 at Grandview for $48,000 - I didn't have the heart to tell him when I snagged one off eBay for $200.

I will say the average Joe doesn't understand timesharing like people here do.

Have not discovered any friends/family on TUG.

Disboards I found a few people that work for the same company as me, someone who had a son that went to the same high school as my son and someone else I met while my daughter was taking some golf lessons (clinic with the parks department).

I have met some wonderful internet friends and because of mouseowners - I also went to my first meet :D

Why are people afraid not to tell others about the resale market? Sure the guy will be mad he spent $48 000 but he will know not to buy any in the future. After you tell them then it is up to them to decide.

I don't think any of my friends, and I know none of my family, are on TUG. How could I talk about them if they were. ;)

At work people roll there eyes when I mention my timeshares. But they look a little sad when I am leaving and say "You're going to Hawaii AGAIN?!" But anyone who is looking for, at, or purchased a timeshare, that I know about, I refer to TUG, and just did that this the past week. But I won't tell them my screename.:D
