You know, maybe it’s time to drive more and fly less. I have a 2006 Mustang convertible that is literally showroom new. I’ve had it for 10 years. I have driven it down the I15 to LA and what a wonderful drive! The scenery is beautiful, the people in the towns awesome and hey I can stop and try out all those hole in the wall restaurants!

So, are you thinking of driving to your favourite resort this year instead of flying?

I’d at least like to go to a different island. :D

I Ve driven all over the Big Island. The North East and West are breathtaking. Well worth a rental car. As i recall, my little Nissan was 12 bux a day. Next time, I would throw in a tent and sleeping bag as camping is everywhere and many right off the beach.

I love the Big Island and can’t wait to get back. Even if it’s just for work. :)

We will be driving more to North and South Carolina . But flying less to Florida, Europe and the Caribbean. IMHO.

We are planning to drive to Hilton Head this summer and probably to Florida next winter for our month away. I do think as soon as it is safe I will be back on an airplane, there are places I want to go to that flying is the only way there, but right now that is in the future, safety first.

I made a vow about driving to Florida never, never ever again that twelve (12) hours drive is too much even after stopping in Savanna, Georgia.
wishing you well and safe driving to the sunshine state. I do like your planing for a long month stay in Florida. Outstanding!!!

We already do the DC-FL drive. 14 hours. Put in an audiobook and go. We also do 10 hours to hhi. Sometimes we do auto train one way. but don’t feel comfortable with that with c19.
We’ll do 17 hours to key west this fall. But break it up over 3 days meandering down with dinner/brunch in savannah and a stop at DVc akv. No flights for a year.

Once testing becomes available, and restaurants and travel services start to open, I'm happy to start some 'road tripping' from home. A day away is Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, Reno, and Yellowstone, Grand Teton and N. Utah are roughly 4 hours by car. But for now, services just aren't open. We feel we are at risk even going to a grocery store, so it's going to be a while before we confidently motor off onto the sunset.

We're hoping to do some road trips this summer. Waiting to see how things play out after the gradual re-opening (e.g. do we get a second wave and a new spike in Covid-19 cases? Hopefully not...). First choice road trip is Carolina Beaches: Myrtle Beach/Charleston/Hilton Head. Second choice beach trip is Virginia Beach with TBD other stops. If beach areas don't look good (e.g. new Covid-19 outbreaks or facilities shutdown again), third choice trip is to head North to the Finger Lakes Region for a combined camping and sightseeing trip. All three options are currently planned for mid-July. We need to be back in August for Marching Band camp for my daughter. Hoping we get to do one of them safely.

In the more immediate time frame, if PA State Parks reopen for Memorial Day Weekend, we are planning a camping, hiking, and canoeing trip. For this one we would expect to have to bring all of our food with us and do all of our own cooking, which wouldn't be a big deal. Typically we would do this as part of a larger group. Some of our group may still join us; however, we expect to have to still be practicing social distancing for this trip. So it would be different than our usual format but still quite nice to get a way regardless.

If we travel anywhere this summer, it will most likely be to just visit family, which is a 1,000 mile trip one-way. Other years we would fly, but this year we would drive it.

while I like to fly, only way we go to Florida now I don't plan on it till the end of December. All driving trips this summer and fall.

We hardly ever fly anyway. We have almost the entire southeast within an 8 hour radius (save south Florida), so we do a lot of driving trips in general. I'm definitely not adding any flights to my itinerary in the next 18 months at least.

I love going overseas whether to Europe, Caribbean, Asia or Hawaii. However, there are so many parts of Canada and the US I haven’t seen. Not to mention, so much beautiful scenery in between destinations I haven’t seen. I’ve been thinking it’s time to cruise New England, the Maritimes, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, and I hear the beaches in Galveston are amazing. To me, travel isn’t just the destination but the journey to try great food and meet great people.

Yep. We're going to try our first big family road trip ever this summer. With my crazy kids, it should be interesting.
We're going to try to avoid air travel until next Spring Break (maybe vaccine by then?)

For the rest of this calendar year we will be doing road trips since our big trip this summer was to three big cities in June. we're just playing the waiting game of should we cancel or wait until the 30 day mark to see if we get our reservation fees back from RCI.

Dh has already said he doesn't plan, or want, to do ANY travel through the end of this year. So, no road trips for us.

We are planning Yellowstone in Sept...Drive to. Hawaii in Jan - fly to.
Both my DS and DD are moving to new locations in the next month and want us to visit but both would be fly to and I just don't want to get on a plane right now.

Some additional thoughts on this topic. For air travel, it isn’t planes nor airports we are leery of. Rather it is that there is less direct control of our travel arrangements when flying versus driving. With driving, if we don't like what we are experiencing, we can just turn around and go home. For our current planned trips, that is at most an overnight stay while in transit back from the furthest point. If it is really bad, my wife and I could take turns driving in shifts and literally just drive straight home and skip the overnight transit stay. Having the most possible direct control over our arrangements is why my wife and I are only looking towards driving trips this summer. Fortunately, any family visits we might make this summer in addition to vacation are also within reasonable driving distance (approx. 500 mile radius).

We hope the pandemic is under control and resolved enough to be comfortable flying to Florida for The New Years Holiday. Some of my family are snow birds and we typically visit them in Florida around that time.

We have 2 or 3 credits to use.

I was flying back in January and February. Sat in row in front of an entire family who was sick on 1/1. The mom said they got sick from flights there. 3 weeks of taking care of sick daughter and grandson. Then I flew home for 1 day.

That night I had fever chills come on fast. Went to my doctor who said I had a virus. I had IV’s of vitamin C & food grade hydrogen peroxide, ozone and a shot. Woke up next morning feeling great and flew back to DD’s. My seat mate was sick. He didn’t cover cough and was very snotty. I had a face mask and wore it.

My doctor has had good success treating Covid patients with similar protocol I had. I’m curious if I had a mild case.

The short answer to this is yes, we probably will even after our July vacation (which hopefully occurs - it is a drivable destination).
The more complete answer involved the fact that we were trying to vacation more in the west / northwest of the country and when we feel like we can resume those vacations we will most definitely fly once again. The question is when will that occur?

yes, a couple of driving trips planned -- hopefully everything will be back to normal this summer :)
