Last month we booked flights connecting through Denver to Moab, UT in September that didn’t get there until early evening. The other day United changed the schedule and the equipment, so now not only are we getting to Moab in mid-afternoon, we’re flying a much nicer plane to Denver. One of the only such changes I can remember being happy about!

Southwest changed our flight by 25 minutes, and I was able to select a better flight (with no extra charge) online after I got the email. It was a nice surprise. I tried to change the flight myself a few days before, and it was an upcharge to change it. They opened up the entire day and no difference in price. Southwest is just superior that way.

We fly Southwest to Hawaii in June. Rick is not looking forward to sitting in those uncomfortable seats, but the savings over our usual choices was so significant. I couldn't resist trying it. He can have the window, I will take that middle seat.

I wish they would let me buy the middle seat for us to spread out a bit.
I think Southwest gives you up until 14 days before traveling to respond to their flight schedule change, provided space is available. Our flight back from Orlando is changed from a non-stop to a direct and the times are still more or less what we want, so I didn't bother changing back. It's also a hassle to change with Companion Pass as you have to cancel, then re-book both reservations.

Southwest changed our non stop to a direct flight as well. The new flight was too late for us so I called Southwest and had them change it to an earlier flight, with no extra cost. The email said the change had to be done within 3 days of the email. We have the companion pass also, and we didn’t have to cancel and re-book

I know, this may not help everyone here, this works very well for us to avoid most of the airline reschedule/canceling flights headache. We primarily fly Spirit, Allegiant because they do not have hub airports and mostly fly direct routes to where we primarily vacation. We have only once had canceled flight on Spirit because of a crew issue. I know all about the medallion and early boarding perks "Gold Delta medallion here) however the flights are 1/2 to 2/3rds cheaper and we love the smaller less crowed airports they fly too.

We flew United for years from NJ, and since we booked timesharing out 9 to 12 months, we bought our air tickets 6-8 months out. The schedules always changed.

No problem. We found that if the proposed new flights didn’t work, we searched ones that did, and typically a call to United got us the other flights, no cost to us. I don’t recall ever paying when they changed our flights and it really was a problem, I.e. too short layover or ridiculously long layover,

Since we are now in Florida, we always have to fly through hubs for the long distance flights on United. Sometimes when the schedule changes we get a better route that we weren’t willing to pay for originally!

New connection time for us in DFW is 39 minutes with change notified to us just 10 days prior.

Just dealt with a 39 minute change in DFW, arrived late due to weather, ran to next gate. Gate agent knew nothing about 7 people scrambling to make the connection and put standbys on the plane in our seats. We got on but blasted American Airlines when they sent a satisfaction survey. Ridiculous in 2021 but I guess on time departure scores are more important than passengers.

Southwest has changed our August flight a couple of times. The first two were acceptable (only changed flight times and lengths by 30 minutes at most) but this latest change was not good. Gave us an extra layover way out of the way and added several hours. We logged onto the app, changed our flight completely and actually got a better flight than we originally had! We had booked one of the cheapest flights and now have a much shorter flight, all at no cost.

As @dayooper notes above, our July trip has similarly been rescheduled a couple of times as well. Fortunately, all changes to this point have been minor and acceptable. I suspect there will be more changes to come though...
As @normab notes, this may be common for those of you with itineraries that begin at busier airports, but for those of us with a regional or national airport as a point of origin, this has not been so common.

At least with Southwest, the key is to check regularly. I was expecting something to happen with our departure flight as it was consistently the cheapest fight for that day. We originally booked the departure flight for $59 a person so it was not a popular flight to begin with. Hopefully this flight will stay as close to this schedule as possible. While we have a stop in Denver, it’s the same flight number and plane so I hope that will give a bit more security.
