Nothing is free. You will have to pay maintenance fee and taxes...

Before picking up any free weeks that you find in this forum, you really need to understand what it is you want to own. In some cases a free timeshare may not even be worth it.

My suggestion is to slow way down. It is easy to get a free timeshare. If you get one, and it doesn’t work for you, it may be very difficult to get rid of it. In some cases, you may have to pay someone to take it off your hands.

Try renting various resorts and systems. You can get great deals in the last minute rental forum. This allows you to sample many different options to find out what you like best, and what you won’t mind paying annual maintenance fees for.

I recommend that you follow the advice folks have given above. ;)
An overwhelming number of timeshares are giving away for free. Here are some additional examples.

PLENTY of free properties available. But do you really want to take them on?

Suggest you RENT at a Resort that interests you prior to making a forever commitment of ownership and the annual maintenance expenses associated with it.

Take it for a test drive (rent a week) to be sure it is your cup of tea, and then find a free one at that particular Resort if you like it.

Do your homework and read up here on TUG.

Best of luck!

I only wondered because OP asked about getting first ts. Their bio names that resort, so it seems they already own one.

From aonother thread, they bought a Hyatt Vacation Club (Welk) but have since rescinded.

As others said, do your research first. However, we have picked up one free timeshare and a few low cost off ebay. Understand you will probably still be paying closing costs and figure out what your maintenance fees will be yearly. I would suggest going with a points system rather than a dedicated week so you have more flexibility. If you are only paying a small amount for the timeshare, when you feel it's time to get out, it's not a huge deal. You can basically give them to someone who would be interested in just paying the closing costs. Oh and don't purchase anything that still has a loan on it.

For some reason the OP seems very anxious to purchase something right away. Last I knew he was hanging out in the Mexican Forum thinking of obtaining something there.

My advice to him in Post #10 was to take his time, study up, read a lot on TUG, and try renting prior to pulling the ownership trigger...... I hope he doesn't act too quickly!

The moderator who wrote this post (linked below) just got a free Hyatt week. Quite a nice one, too. They're out there. Be patient.

In the meantime, it has been suggested that you answer the questions found on this link, so that people can actually help you. Going off half-cocked is the best possible way to waste money and get something which doesn't work for you. I highly recommend that you cut and paste all of these questions into a "What should I buy" post, and answer them as completely as possible. Every possible resort and system has an owner here who can explain it to you, so you can make a smart purchase. How are you going to know what to buy if you don't know what you want?

Yes there are!

Did you look in the Free Timeshare Giveways and Bargain Deals in this very forum? Or are you fishing for people to reach out to you with what they have so you don't have to do any looking yourself?

For some the seller pays the closing costs and resort transfer fee, some the buyer pays and some those expenses are split. Some have the Week, Points or Trading Power Units (TPUs), available this year, some have carried them over from the previous year so are also available and some have nothing until the next use year.

Most resale timeshares are free but that does not mean they are the best purchases. Look at the ones that are NOT free and try to understand why people pay thousands of dollars when so many others are given away and nobody takes them. You can pick for very little (compared to the resale prices) a great resort, high season, sometimes a view that is special. The maintenance fees should always be less, or substantially less than the rental price for that week (compare to what other owners charge for rentals, not to Expedia). If you buy a points system (RCI points, Hilton, Vistana, MVC, Hyatt etc) always buy the ones with the cheapest cost per point. Calculate your costs for the next 10-15 years (upfront plus maintenance fees) and compare.

In time you will find great bargains if you are patient, and who knows, you may even find one for free that checks all the boxes, although, for a number of reasons, the real bargains seem to be harder and harder to get.

I agree with the advice, check out resorts, before obtaining, try renting before obtaining. OP hasn’t posted to any of these bits of advice? Please let us know what you decide ?
