Are points no longer added to our bills for marketplace purchases at resort/hotel stays?

Ok, I tried to search for this information, but had no success. I recently stayed at Grand Chateau and made several purchases in the market place. Since it's been several weeks, I called Marriott to inquire about my points. I was told today by two different agents that points are not added from purchases. This is something that has always been advised for us to do on TUG for years. Has something changed? I requested to have my inquiry escalated.

It depends. The outlet has to be operated my Marriott Vacations for you to get Bonvoy points. Too often the marketplace is a third party vendor and doesn't qualify. Other "traditional" food and beverage outlets would. Things like the pool bar or onsite restaurant. But not the marketplace.

Did you do a room charge and did the charges appear on your folio? I did that a couple of years ago and seem to remember getting points for the food I purchased (along with my 1000 point welcome gift). But I could be misremembering.

Perhaps another question, did the elite night credits post? As mentioned above, did you also get the welcome gift, 1000 points usually, depending on Bonvoy status.

Yes, the elite points/welcome gift posted automatically. The 7 nights were also posted. Marriott stated that the charges were listed on the folio as miscellaneous. I'm waiting for Grand Chateau to reply regarding the points.

I suspect the issue is then, that the marketplace is a third party and not managed or operated by Marriott Vacations. If you had made purchases at La Diva or the pool bars, those would have earned points.

Thanks for this information. I know that I have purchased items in the past that were rewarded, but we know how quickly things change.

Btw, I cannot complain at all since I did get 20,000 points added to my account due to several complaints with the unit. Also, we had no water for two days from 10 PM to the next day due to a water main break. Of course, this was not the resort's fault, but I had issues with no hot water several days as well.

Canyon Villas stopped awarding Bonvoy points for (any (F and B, gift shops, golf, spa) charges incurred at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge, about two years ago. I’m not sure whose cost-savings measure that was, Canyon Villas, or the JW’s.

Can you still charge purchases made at the JW to your folio at Canyon Villas?

Unfortunately, I believe, not. But, you raise a good point/question.

I’m not sure that we ever asked about charges back to our villa (from the JW), once we learned that JW charges won’t earn Bonvoy points.

Then that explains why you can't get Bonvoy points.
If you used your Marriott Credit Card at the JW it seems you should have gotten points

That would apply at a Buc-ee’s, too, wouldn’t it?

No, not at Buc-ee’s - you get 6 points per dollar on Marriott spend using their branded card at Marriott hotels including restaurants, spas if run by Marriott.

I would still get 2 points per dollar at Buc-ee’s. In any case, the 6 points is a credit card bonus earn. Bottom line question was about a hotel spend earn, which would stack with the 6 points and be subject to an elite bonus. Would you get points from the hotel for the spend at a JW or just the credit card points?

You would still earn the points from Chase or Amex, but the source isn't the same so I don't usually speak of those points in the same context as points applied based on purchases charged to your folio. Points from using the credit card are provided by Chase or Amex and applied to your account when your credit card statement closes. They are separate from the points you get based on stuff charged to your room which would be 10 to 17.5 points per dollar. Those are applied shortly after check out.

You would only get the 6 points per dollar from the credit card spend as long as you pay at the JW with one of the Marriott Bonvoy credit cards.
