Are electric lawn mowers worth it?

We own a .29 acre property that I've always used a gas powered mower on. Frankly I'm getting tired of dealing with the gas and carburetor issues that comes with it. Its always the same, for a few years it works without a hitch and then its starts to have these issues no matter how I take care of it. Anyone make the transition to electric?

Good, bad, indifferent?

We mow with an Ego electric, and liked it so much we transitioned to Ego for our hedge trimmer, blower, and believe it or not chainsaw! The mower does as well as our old Honda gas push mower, and you shouldn't have a problem with battery life on .29 acres.

I think with .29 acres, electric will be easier. That said, the batteries are eventually consumable, and they're not cheap. So I guess compare that to getting the gas mower serviced or replaced. But I don't like pull starts at all, so I'd say electric would be real nice if it's priced right.

If I were doing my own lawn again, I would look into electric (trimmer, hedge and mower). They now have standard power-packs across a manufacturer's line that you can keep spare(s) charging while you work.

When I was a kid and mowed lawns for pocket money, one of the ladies I had as a customer had an electric mower with a deep cycle 12 volt lead acid battery (1960's). That succa was HEAVY!

Riyobi 40V lawn mower and accessories have been good for us. Been using for 3 or 4 years, all batteries are still good and going strong. Sometimes miss the power of gas but convenience and ease of startup and low maintenance make it a winner for us.

It's just a matter of time before small gas engines are outlawed due to pollution and noise. If I were in the market, I'd buy electric now. We hire out our lawn care, but I have electric blowers and hedge trimmer. I can't imagine going back to gas.

Last year, I replaced a Black & Decker lead-acid battery push-mower, with a new Ego 56V lithium battery self-propelled mower. It's been a godsend. I have done both front & back yards on one charge, but typically, charge it up between the two.

Just like anything else, electric has its place. For about a quarter acre, I'm sure it will be fine.

Several years ago I converted to Battery (80V) Lawn Mower, Dual Line Trimmer, Blower, and Hedge Trimmer. They all use the same Battery. I now have 5 80V Batteries and 3 Rapid Battery Chargers. The Dual Line Trimmer and Blower came as a set with only 1 shared Battery and 1 Rapid Charger. I quickly ordered a Second Battery. The Lawn Mower came with 1 Rapid Charger and 2 Batteries. The Hedge Trimmer came with 1 Battery and 1 Rapid Battery. Only the Hedge Trimmer is a hit heavy and can occasionally be awkward to use. But it will cut branches bigger than my thumb. They are Greenworks.

Portland Oregon is banning Gas Powered Leaf Blowers except in the Fall and Winter when they leaves are wet.

We use a gardener for the lawn. But I do have a electric blower and hedge trimer. Both work great.

Back when I was a trucker, I had a 40v Ryobi leaf blower, I could blow out almost every speck of dust in a trailer in no time! I also see all the Ryobi and other electric tools and mowers at Home Depot, some are even made in the USA. I suggest Ridgid cordless tools, their lifetime warranty INCLUDES BATTERIES!

I probably won't be getting an electric lawn mower though I had thought about getting the robotic lawn mower but our place is too big.

We have Riobi mower, trimmers and about same lawn size. Our only regret was not getting self-propelled.

We have 2 battery packs which completes lawn

I am probably going to buy a Greenworks Battery Powered Mini Bike. What pushed me over the edge is I can use the same batteries in a small Greenworks inverter for use tailgating, power outages, picnics and other uses. No need for any lawn stuff as the Condo Association takes care of all that.

It might work.
I use a gas riding mower for a one acre lot but I've also used an Ego electric lawn mower on a small condo property and it worked fine.
I've gone electric battery /cordless for most of my lawn stuff - hedger, weed eater, blower, etc. and I use a battery powered chain saw

I have electric (battery) blower and weedwacker that I really like, and have a cord electric hedge trimmer that I plan to replace with a battery one. We have over an acre and I like to cut the ,50 acre front yard with a self-propelled gas powered mulching mower, and use a tractor (non-mulching) for the back. Are there any good electric mulching self-propelled mowers available?

When I had a home back in Idaho the home was on like .21 acre plot. Small lawn in front and back. Did not want to deal with gas mower either. Got a good old plug in electric mower. Yeah it's a bit clumsy using it with a 50ft cord. Start close to the house and run out further with the cord.

It was good for a few years until I got weekly lawn service.

Don't think you will find many corded electric mowers anymore with the battery units. As a matter of fact I had a Greenworks as well.
Here is the pic when I was selling it.

I just bought a Ryobi push mower and it's so much better than my gas powered mower. Quiet, light weight, and stays clean. I also have the blower, trimmer, and hedge clippers. I now have three batteries. I use the hand tools also using the smaller battery. The key is to stay within brands.

Which honestly is such an increase in lock in - there's no reason we should not have a standard battery like we have standard gas. What if Sthil has the best chainsaw, but someone else has a better lawn mower. This anti-competitive behavior ought to be regulated out, but I am not holding my breath.

What is the predict life span of an electric mower and have often do you need to replace the batterie in an electric mower?
My main question is; how does the lawn look after using an electric mower ?

I’ve had an Ego mower for 4 years, still on the same battery. I go over mine twice each time I cut. Once over doesn’t look good, but I cut my lawn at a 3” height. A lower cutting height might work with a single cutting.
