We are thinking of going to Sedona, with the main purpose of going is to go to the grand canyon.

My question is, would I be better to go in April or June? What is the weather like each time of year?

Would parts of the Grand Canyon be closed in April?

Went in April

We went the last week of April of '05. It was 75-80 in Vegas, and when we got to the south rim, it was 64. The north rim was still offseason, as the stores/gas stations were not yet open, according to the visitors' center at the south rim.

That said, I found temps in the 60's fine at Grand Canyon.

For us locals who spend time each year at the Canyon, April would be our choice. Spring is happening, the falls are flowing and the flowers are budding. Having said that, if this is a first to third trip, then June would be fine. Yes, tourists will be there. Yes, it will be crowded. Yes, it will be more difficult to get reservations. But the temperatures will be beautiful (for our standards) and you will be able witness the Canyon's beautiful colors as well as any time in the year. Keep in mind, Arizona is experiencing a severe drought this year. If this continues, the forest service may close the park. We are also anticipating the worse fire season we have ever had. So, you may really want to come in April.

Is the south rim of the park open in April? If this is my first trip, would that much of the park make it worthwhile?

Actually we are trying to book something through RCI for 2007.

What are the temps like in the first part of April in the Canyon and Sedona?
