Aloha,
Is there anything special that occurs during April in the Big Island that would cause occupancy rates in general to be very high similar to Iron Man in October?
We're about to start an ongoing search for a particular weekend at a short list of specific resorts. I realize that the best time to get a match would have been months ago (I can see it in my screen scraped captured data). I'm wondering if there are likely to be factors driving unusually high demand.
Mahalo,
Jack

Yes - Easter is April 8th, so both the week before and after will have higher demand because kids are out of school.

The weekend before Easter is week 13 on the TDI - I'm not sure why week 12 is slightly higher.

Aloha Denise,
Mahalo for that chart. FWIW, we're focused on week 16 for the RCI exchange. Looks like general demand is about or slightly lower than average.
I'm still wondering about special events.
Our short notice October 2010 trip to BI got planned without thinking about Iron Man. Due to business travel and the discovery of Iron Man I could not wait to see if my normal last minute exchange match approach would work. It would have if I could have waited another day.
We have a combined deposit that will expire in 2012 and I'm trying to understand factors, if any, that would increase demand for close to check-in. Based on historic data, I just may buy (shop for) the airfare and rent some time in a spot on the east side we really like. I'm trying to learn all the factors that a contingency plan should consider if our highly focused ongoing exchange doesn't work.
Mahalo,
Jack

The Merry Monarch Festival coincides with Easter every year on the Big Island. (I believe it is the weekPeople come from all over the islands and mainland to compete and watch. Rental cars disappear and definitely Hilo side places to stay sell out. I don't know if it affects TS's as much.

The dates are April 8-14 for 2012.

It is something to see if you are there at that time! It is also broadcast on TV so you can watch from any island.

It is a strictly Hawaiian Hula Festival. Costumes, songs, hula styles, etc. must be Hawaiaan. Different time periods are represented - from ancient chants and sacred dances to 1800's when it was forbidden, then the various more modern hulas in the 20th century as it was brought back.
