My FIL saw some sort of back product on television He called it decompression therapy. He thinks that because it was on tv with testimonials of people who were cured (not just temporary pain relief) that it must be true. His doctor explained to him that several double-blinded studies had proved it isn't effective. He told Dad that if insurance doesn't cover something that is a good indicator that it doesn't have a good track record. I tried to explain to Dad that those people who were "cured" are paid professional actors. Dad said, "I know that." He doesn't but he has his pride. That's about all he has left.
I agree with what others have suggested. Try it several times. I'd also ask where you plan to put it. Do you have space for it or will it just add clutter your space? Will you use it enough to justify the space it will require? That is always one of the questions I ask before buying anything--where will I put it?
