Thanks, I just bought it! Too bad I couldn't use my $10 off in-store coupon online - and it's not worth the hassle of driving to the store. I did click through UPromise, though, so that's a few extra $ in my account.

I wonder if TUG should start a bargain hungers forum? We shoppers seem to have a pretty big presence in the lounge :)

We got a Garmin nuvi 255W Portable GPS w/ 4.3" Screen & Spoken Street Names for our son for Christmas. It was $217 from Amazon with free shipping and is highly recommended by Consumer Reports.

Which one? There's 76 items in that search result, with all different prices.

I thought he was recommending the one at the top of the list? Maybe not...hopefully he will post.

If my DD was having trouble finding her way home my first bet would be that it was because of someone else's DS, not because she needed a GPS! :D

DS was actually doing a friend a favor & drove him to work and then got lost coming home:D No gilrls invloved this time

If I stray from the mandated route, the Garmin-lady commands me to make a U-Turn.
I respond, "Oh, shut the h*ll up," and give it finger.

That seems to have the desired effect as next she says, in a seductive tone, "Recalculating."
I say, "Recalculate all you want, lady, I'm taking 8th Avenue."

My wife calls our TomTom "smarty pants". We do get a kick out of the escalating warnings that are clearly wrong at times (or when streets are temporarily rerouted, detours, etc) that prohibit following "her" directions. Overall a very handy item to have but you can't put 100% faith in all it comes up with.

We have named ours "Mo" for moron. It always tries to send us, at least locally, on a route, that, distance wise, maybe a bit shorter, but, traffic and signals, substantially longer in time. But, of course, you really don't need a GPS locally, do you?

We did have a problem up in the Berkshires. Having never been there before, it was running about 1/2 a mile behind where we actually were. My fault that I did not pay too much attention, but, it told us to exit off the Mass. Pike after we passed the exit. Next one was 29 miles away. Guess getting a clear signal in the mountains is hard.

In Don's car The Lady Of The Car is not seductive at all with her "Recalculating" - in fact we tease him about how snippy she gets! Now I guess we can also tease him that he missed out on a "deluxe" model. :p

I say, "Recalculate all you want, lady, I'm taking 8th Avenue."

I wonder how many times we see someone talking in a car and think they must be using a phone headset, when actually they're arguing with their Lady Of The Car?
