I have points that I was looking to use for Dec 09 and I am rushing around to see if I need to book by Jan 14th before the program changes. I have just enough to book a flight and week in London. Are we better off waiting or have they changed the program where it will cost us more points to get what we can get at this point level? Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for any info anyone has.

Sue

As far as I know, the points program is increasing for the trip you mention. But not sure if you book now if you will be able to keep it or not. Maybe someone else can say.

I assume you are referring to the air-hotel "Travel Packages", since those cost fewer points than getting frequent flyer miles with one Reward and a hotel certificate with another Reward.

Yes, the cost (in terms of number of points) is going up on January 15. See this thread. So if you know what you want to do in 2009, order a Travel Package and book it before January 15. However, beware that if your plans change and you are unable to use the hotel certificate before it expires (one year from when you order it), you will not be able to extend the expiration date.

Thanks Dave. I have marked the reference site and will get to it later. The only question I have (if you know) is if we cannot use the hotel certificate for that specific hotel can we use it elsewhere within the years time. I usually plan way in advance to get FF tickets and other perks and would only cancel for an emergency. If we had to cancel the hotel in London would we be able to use those points for something else here; or, are we locked into that specific hotel?

Figuring all this out is a full time job.

Thanks again.

The certificates are for a certain level of hotel and not for a single hotel. So if you get a certificate for a Cat7 hotel, you can use it at any cat 7 hotel.

BUT if before the deadline, you get a certificate & reservation for a Cat7 hotel (which is changing to a Cat8 hotel). The certificate will be good even though the hotel has gone up from a cat7 to a cat8.

Marriott has a web program that explains it fully. I did it about a month ago--it did not seem that bad. Call owners services and ask them if you can join one of the webchats specifically the one on the points.
