Anyone ever stay at NCV over Labor Day?

Hello! I’m looking at a mini family reunion over Labor Day of next year, which is late…September 7. Ideally we are choosing September because August has been so ridiculously crowded. The last two years it’s been hard to get seats at the pool, and the jacuzzis are completely filled with people…like completely full, not just people sitting in the spots but standing crowded in the middle, way over the max, and many little kids and babies in diapers in there too…not my cup of tea.
I’m wondering since LD is so late in 2026, perhaps it won’t be quite so crowded??? Maybe it’s wishful thinking. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

Labor Day weekend will be nuts. Immediately after it clears.out.

Have you been there during Labor Day or is that a guess?

We usually go in peak summer, but my gut feeling is that Labor Day would be more more relaxed since most public school districts in the area (and around the country) are back in session by mid-August. For example, LAUSD and SDUSD start classes Aug 11, 2026.

This is what I was hoping, and I really hope to hear from people who have been there then. And also, since Labor Day is so late this year, but who knows? That’s why I’m asking.😊

I can't speak from experience there, hopefully there are those that can. But every place I've ever been where one can drive to that's busy during summer tends to be very busy during the weekend and much less so on Monday.

Labor Day late this year? It is Sept 1 this year!

I'm not sure whether this would apply to NCV, but we typically take our summer mountain trip to Vail or Park City during the last week of August and return on Labor Day weekend. That week is usually a lot less crowded because most children have gone back to school and all the local attractions are still open.

We’ve found that long weekends are always busy in off/shoulder season. Once the weekdays roll around it gets pretty quiet. With points and cash bookings people no longer need to stay a whole week.

We saw who’s at Kierland Villas over the 4th. No way we were going near the Recreation Pool.

Talking about 2026. :)
It’s quality input like mine that makes TUG so awesome! 😛

I will actually try to read the original post more clearly next time!

When you said that though I immediately thought of our Labor Day weekend plans THIS YEAR, and immediately panicked thinking I had messed up!

I have a points reservation the last week in August next year and thought since kids would be back in school it may not be that crazy but after reading your post about August I may have to cancel.

I was there every year for 17 years. All the locals come down from L.A. with 15 of their closest friends. If you go out at night, you'll have a hard time getting a spot to park when you get back. Forget about the pool. Also, as the official end to summer, the beaches are packed that weekend but especially on Labor Day. If you go to crystal cove which is normally laid back, it will be hard to park or even find a spot to sit on the beach. That's Monday. Come Tuesday you might be the only person at the beach. The following week after labor day used to be a pain because of the car show in CDM, but they stopped doing that from what I remember.

I am booked for 8/23/26 on points if too crowded maybe I can change for October but wanted to be there when it’s warm and that’s the only reason I booked August. September is not an option.

October is often one of the warmest months in SoCal. Historically this is when we get Santa Ana winds and can be upwards of 90 degrees at the beach. But that does vary. Our favorite month is September because all the 'Zonies and other tourists are gone, water is still warm (for us), and kids are in school. We call Sept-Oct the San Diego summer season.

Oh really!! Then I will change to October then. I am in Spain in September or else that would have been my choice. Thanks for that infor.

Technically the post you were replying to did say "this year".

Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry about that. My fault in it being a quick response and not proofreading. Sorry for the confusion.🤦‍♀️

Thanks for all for the replies. We used to live in Southern CA before we moved far away 21 years ago, and yes, that is the local’s summertime when the majority of tourists are gone and the weather is gorgeous, the ocean water it’s warmest, and beaches not crowded….lovely!

October is usually nice. Another option is you could rent your high demand August week and use the cash to open your options further.

How much is it to do a trade from a NCV week in August to A week in Sept or October? Does one do that through Marriott or Interval?

Interval. If your week is enrolled in Abound then there is no exchange fee for exchanges (other than fees if you upgrade to a higher bedroom count) to other MVC/Vistana resorts. If not enrolled, the fee for exchanges to other MVC/Vistana resorts was $164 but I believe is currently $199 or so.

There are still 119 August weeks that have not been rented for 2025 on redweek. So I will just cancel and re book for October. The points required are significantly less or I can exchange on interval. I am glad to hear about the October weather there.
