Google Rock Tops. Check the BBB, Ripoff report, Angie's list and garden web. Check with local fabricators. You will most likely find better customer service for the same price.

Rock Tops, Inc. experience

I had a good experience with Rock Tops, Inc of Michigan. I was leery since the price was SO good and you had to pay up front. They came three days later to template which was done with a laser. We have an old house and the tops fit like a glove. There was no need for silicone filler at the back (we opted for no back splash). We'd seen several other company's work and they used a clear silicone sealer to fill in the void between wall and counter top. The sink that they provided was just as nice as any we'd looked at independently. The templater was running a few minutes late and they called to tell me he would be a few minutes late. They called about a week later and set up the installation date, and then called and confirmed the date and time the day before installation. They actually arrived an hour early to install (which was great...less time for me to fret). The installers were courteous, informative, and cleaned up as they went along. I really can't complain. When I called my salesman he either answered my question immediately or called back when he said he would (I really gave him a hard time because I was so nervous). We did have a sheet that said what our obligations were to ready for install and we followed them to a tee. We have an old house and wanted to move a couple of cabinets around but that was all done and the cabinets secured and levelled before their arrival. My suggestion would be to negoiate a better payment deal (I've heard they will do this if pressed). Walk away from the salesman and if he wants the sale bad enough he may come up with an alternate plan. Just a suggestion. We dealt with the Holly, MI showroom and our salesman was John Ward. Our counter tops were installed 2days shy of 4 weeks after our visit to the showroom, better than the time table we were told. Good luck with your counters. No kitchen renovation is ever easy!

Rock Tops, Inc. experience

I last wrote several months ago telling of my positive experience with Rock Tops, Inc. in Michigan. I am sad to report that tonight a local Detroit TV station newscast reported that Rock Tops have closed their doors, leaving hundreds of customers out in the cold with no countertops that have already been paid for, AND employees have been left without pay checks and jobs with no notice. The owners are no where to be found. Local police authorities are looking into the matter but have indicated that it probably will be a civil matter rather than a criminal matter. One employee interviewed felt that there was no criminal intent but that merely the company tried to grow too fast in bad economic times. Apparently an investor backed out at the last moment during an attempt to salvage the company. I guess that I just got lucky...
