We stayed at the Grand last April, AFTER the Easter break...so the place was basically deserted, all of Moon Palace, that is. Some restaurants weren't open every day. But that is another issue.
Construction for the area of the Grand has stopped. We were told by a sales rep the President of MX stopped construction for environmental reasons...destruction of the mangroves. The problem is, there were multiple buildings already started that are sitting there unfinished. When you are at the pools built for this section, some of the incomplete buildings (with rusting supports and jagged concrete supports) are sometimes in your view. Not a big deal, but maybe you'd rather not look at it. There are just 2 restaurants there: one big buffet restaurant, and one near a smallish non-oceanfront pool. The latter pool was very quiet, and it was nice to be so near a source for drinks and snacks...no long walks. OTOH, there is no view to speak of; it's nicely landscaped, but all you see is vegetation. There is a golf cart shuttle to take you over to the Sunrise area (I THINK that's the one closet to the Grand) whenever you want; we used it a lot.
If you will have kids with you, regardless of age, I'm not sure I would stay at the Grand. There is not much for them to do there. There is one LARGE 4?-foot pool, where volleyball was played, but otherwise the whole area was quiet. While we liked the Grand, it is a bit away from everything; if that is what you are looking for on this trip, you may want to give it a try.
Regarding the rest of the resort, I don't think there were any big changes. So whatever you experienced there before will probably be the same.
Hope you have a great time!
