In August of 2007 we bought an "upgrade" to our Vacation Internationale (VI) membership. We paid (more $ than I care to think about) to be able to exchange with RCI points. At the sales presentation we were told we would get an account number and password so we could access the RCI website and see availability for exchanges.
A few months went by, with me checking the snail mail every day, looking for my "welcome kit" and password from RCI. When nothing arrived, I called VI and asked where the password was. They said, "Oh, your RCI account number is ___ and you can just set up an account on RCI's website and request a password." Okay, but when I tried to do that, the RCI system would not give me an account. I called them, and they explained that VI had not "worked out the details" for the VI members to be able to log onto RCI and view availability. Fast forward to now: I've called every few months for the past year, asking what the status is. Both VI and RCI say "We're working on it", but cannot give me an estimate of when it will be accomplished. Meanwhile, they say for me to just call RCI to ask about availability.
I find that unacceptable. I have to call, wait on hold, and then give the parameters that I want the RCI agent to check. I want to be able to check for myself, multiple times a day if I want. I think the other RCI members (from timeshares other than VI) have an advantage over me, although I assume we all pay the same membership fee each year ($124?).
Are there other VI/RCI members here who share the same frustration? Any advice from you timeshare "veterans" who can tell me what to say to RCI to get them to give us VI members access to their availability website?
