My 8yo DD and I are going to Westin St. John for Spring Break and I was wondering if any of our experts have tips for us? Not sure if DH or others can join us yet because of work. I'm not planning to rent a car.

DD is an extrovert and loves to travel, swim and learn new things. I would be happy to relax on any beach anywhere - but I want to make this a fun trip for her as well.

Any excursions you recommend for children? (Virgin Gorda and Baths have always been on my wish list)
Do your kids enjoy the kid's club?
Any advice on getting groceries without a car?

I am hoping to use the Westin ferry service so we don't have to haul luggage - but wonder if it's a problem if we arrive too late. I'm deciding between flights that arrive around 3 or 7 p.m. If I book the 7 p.m. flight, is that going to be a problem using the Starwood ferry service? It sounds like they end their regular schedule around 5 p.m. but it still looks like the service is available for later arrivals.

Any advice is appreciated!

Read trip reports on WSJ thread (part 2) 1st couple of posts have links.

I strongly advise to contact Capt Jason (Island Roots) and see if you can arrange a charter.

If the Baths is on your BL - then do this. That is what a BL is about.

If you arrive late - you will miss the Westin Ferry, but they can arrange travel for you (likely if not too late), via bus-taxi to RedHook (across St Thomas) to cross channel, and then to WSJ, and will deal with bags. There is a remote WSJ office at STT - call Front Desk and inquire about such logistics. Staff is always happy to assist. If worse comes to worse - it isn't that hard to take public transist, but there will be some bag carrying involved (and they charge per bag both on ferry and taxi-buses). Check vinow.com for ferry and taxi info.

If DD isn't the type to have an electronic device in their face all the time - they will likely enjoy StJ. St Johnians almost take pride in not being internet friendly (relatively).

Do the NPS tour of Reef Bay Trail - make reservation.

Hike to Ram Head if you can get out to Salt Pond Bay - there is actually a public bus (VITRAN) that goes out there from Cruz Bay - but do not get left behind...

This is great info David - Thank you! The electronic device issue concerned me a little. I just explained that St.John is not like Aruba and is more "remote." She asked if there is tv and it appears she can survive on this island after all haha. I'll follow up on your recommendations.

There is WiFi at resort. Be careful with smart phone connections away from resort (do not relay thru BVI - pricey).

We went with 9yo twins to WKORV - and their parents had to bribe them (aka making deals) to play outside. Sad...
and what are they doing on their devices? a lot of time watching someone playing online video games (???)
Guy has like 30 million followers - can't recall name - friggin bizarre...

You don't even want to know how much he makes a year for playing games (it's in the millions). There was a news article about a local college student who has a successful Youtube channel. He drives a Lamborghini and says he doesn't need a job after he graduates. My DD loves Youtube and has begged me to post her videos..I've resisted but have now changed my mind:)

I saw him interviewed on the Late Show (Colbert) - some odd name. I realized that it was this guy these kids were watching. What an odd time to be a child or a parent. Glad I do not need to deal with it.
(I didn't even know the 1st moon walk was on TV - we listened on the radio... LOL)

Anyway - hopefully the DD will try and take vacation from being connected while on StJ. StJ is not for everyone - that is for sure.

Hope to hear about your trip.
