I help my Dad with his VIP Platinum account.

Today he got a phone call saying it was Club Wyndham Plus and that his account is past due. It is not.

I'm concerned someone has his account number and some personal information. They have the name on his account (it's a trust, they have the name correct, obviously have his phone number, and zip, and who knows what else).

Has anyone else gotten these calls?

Yes, we get the calls, and they are from Wyndham, but it's always about guest certificates and how they haven't gotten the payment yet, when in fact their system has a delay. Wyndham doesn't have real-time credit card processing.

Not a call, however, the sales presentation bumped into some sort of compter reporting issue. Their is a new entry on the computer form they pull on the owners record. It is to have one of the following codes on it, 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 where the numbers represent the number of months that a maintance fee is not due because of the Wyndham Rewards program crediting payments from the bonuses received from use of the card. My guess if your father has a Wyndham Rewards Credit Card, it has something to do with this. At first, the sales rep though Wyndham had stopped crediting my account through the direct debit system.

My Dad just went to a sales presentation. Yes, he has Wyndham Rewards.

I think I've read before that when you go to a presentation you are opening yourself up for an audit. I'm guessing what I'm seeing is a combination of what both of you said (I have rented points and paid for guest confirmations - always online).

Don't laugh when I say this, would they have updated his account based on their observations? His SO was also on his account at one time and somehow had her own, now closed Rewards accounts. He got a couple emails regarding that yesterday, too (indicating her Rewards account was a duplicate). It was closed over a year ago and they have done nothing with it. Hence they go to a sales presentation and now he is getting strange emails on it. Conincidence?

I asked the sales department and they said the call asking for money must be a scammer, but I'm more inclined to think their "audit" has triggered some activity on his account.

When YOU agree to an Owners' Update, the sales staff (the manager first) reviews YOUR account to assign a sales rep who reads your history TO SELL you effectively. If you don't show up, that sales rep has time to review and help your ownership.

I don't know which is worse: make the commission sales agent UNHAPPY in person by NOT buying or by not showing up?

That is WHY I refuse to go to or set an appointment - no reason to open my member number.
