We'll be visiting for 3 days in April, prior to heading to Baton Rouge for the USBC Open tournament. Currently we are considering an airboat/plantation tour, the WW2 museum, possibly the Pharmacy museum (bc I work for Walgreens šŸ¤£) wandering around the french quarter, true crime pub crawl. I'm not a big drinker and I don't eat seafood, DH partakes in both.

Any suggestions?

Have fun at the USBC Championships. Some of my friends were on the winning team event the last time it was there in Baton Rouge. As for time in New Orleans . . . we love having a po'boy at Mothers on Poydras Street . . . breakfast there is amazing too! Airboat tours down in the bayou are alright, but most that we've done all feed the alligators to get them to come around, and I have a strong feeling against such. The WW2 Museum is wonderful, so yes be sure to do that.

As for plantation tours, we've done a few. Our favorite was Oak Alley as well as the San Francisco Plantation House, but the latter has been shuttered and appears to have not reopened since early 2022.

We have also enjoyed the New Orleans School of Cooking (TWICE!) and highly recommend it.

If you like rum & distilleries, we've also enjoyed the tour & sampling at the New Orleans Rum Distillery.

I was looking at the Oak Alley one. I will check out the rest of your suggestions.
I'm happy if I "win" a challenge coin. (I've gotten one the last 3 times ) I'm in the classified division with the sport bowl average conversion. One of my team mates has 48 consecutive years at the Open. He's determined to hit 50! It's nice not to have to go to Reno or Vegas.

Let me just say, we could spend two or three days in the WWII Museum alone. The two ā€œRoad toā€ exhibits (to Berlin and Tokyo) can take hours apiece, and my brain gets full after awhile. Then thereā€™s always a special temporary exhibit, plus the original D-Day portion ā€” way too much for just one day!

We drove out to Oak Ally then on our return we drove by other plantations and went to B & C Seafood Market & Cajun Restaurant where we bought crawdads and I guess fixins. They loaded this up with a box so it was easy to go to the River Park they suggested and eat them.

We also did the air boat swamp ride out of Laffite I think. It was a fun thing to do.

There is so many things to do besides wandering the French Quarter but we like Ghost Tours and there are plenty in the French Quarters.

We agree unless you simply walk fast and do not spend hardly any time at the Exhibits that the WWII Museum is at least 2 days. They use to offer a 2nd day ticket at a discount when you paid your original entry.

I'm certainly not an expert on NOLA but we were there in April 2024. We were disappointed in the po'boys at Mothers. Maybe they had an off night because there was a big line up of people waiting to get in. For dessert, I highly recommend getting the Double Chocolate Bread Pudding, with ice cream at Red Fish Grill on Bourbon Street. Order it when you first get there as it takes 20 minutes. That dessert was heavenly. We had it twice during our four night stay.

We also recommend Red Fish. We loved the Double Chocolate Pudding. Also the Oysters. In fact at almost all NOLA Restaurants you can order Bread Pudding. They are all different and all good. Some of the best music is on Frenchmen St.

Sounds like it's similar to the Rock and Roll hall of fame. That museum is 7 stories I think. I had to keep prodding DH to keep moving because we weren't going to make it through.

I forgot to mention the cemeteries . . . if that sorta thing doesn't creep you out. We have enjoyed just rolling through one or two of them, looking at the uniqueness that we've only seen in New Orleans. I'm not sure how the most recent floods have affected them, as it's been several years (about 10) since our last trip there.

Cliff must read every museum placard. I can get through a large museum in 2-3 hours, simply taking it in and enjoying ALL the exhibits at a fairly quick pace. When Iā€™m done I go find him still on the first floor. That being said, WWII stuff slows even me down to a crawl, I guess because it is so ā€œrecentā€ and also because I more or less remember what Iā€™m reading compared to ancient artifacts where Iā€™d rather see and enjoy the exhibits because I simply will remember very little of what all the little signs say. After 3 hours at the WWII Nimitz Museum my feet gave out before my brain did.

Agree with the WWII museum and New Orleans School of Cooking. I still make the gumbo that I leaned in class. There are also a few glass blowing studios in the magazine street area by the museum.

Our very favorite restaurant is Brigtsen's (https://brigtsens.com/#). It is in the uptown neighborhood. Highly recommend the butternut shrimp bisque soup which has been on their menu for years with good reason.

Not creepy at all. I used to travel around WI, visiting cemeteries doing genealogy before the internet was available.

The last I heard, it's very risky to go in the cemeteries. The tourists there are a magnet for criminals. Some tours are offered, which would be safer. But definitely fascinating to see.
