Have any HGVC owners exchanged into Maui lately. I would like to go back. When I've had an ongoing RCI search nothing really comes up. I don't want Kaanapali Beach Club because it doesn't have a kitchen.

I did trade into Maui thru SFX but it was to Kaanapali Beach club. The best trade we ever made - we had an amazing time and LOVED that property and Maui itself - but we did not need a stove top. We did have the sink , fridge, toaster and microwave which was sufficient. I deposited a 1br. Their gold membership is free so there is not much to lose...

Maui no ka 'oi !!!!

You could take an electric grill with you? ;)

Try an exchange

HGVC has a high exchange value. Reserve a 1 or 2 bedroom at the Waikiki Village Lagoons or Waiokolao and offer to exchange into Maui.

Private exchange

I did private exchanges through TUG market place.
I reserved big island weeks and got Marriott and Westin Maui weeks.
TUG private exchange works very well for me.
Marriott doesn't have resort in big island and Westin doesn't have resort in Oahu or big island either. So the owners want to try new places.
Marriott and Westin have wonderful resorts in Maui and Kauai.

Totally agree with this. We traded a Hyatt Aspen studio ski week to another TUGger in exchange for 3 nights in a 1BR plus (I think "plus" is the correct term) unit at Kings Land. The other great thing about the private trades is that you can work non-standard swaps like this.

Thanks everyone, this looks like a really good idea.

I actually did that this past summer when we did 2 weeks in New York. The timeshare only had a microwave. We took a George Foreman and a rice cooker. It worked really well as we had no other cooking options. But, given the choice, I really want a full kitchen especially in Hawaii.

That's what I was wondering about. If the OP could reserve at HHV and find a Marriott owner to reserve at MOC on Maui, and then do a private exchange? Marriott's Ko'Olina is nice but I'd love to stay at HHV at least once and I'm sure some Hilton owners would lile to stay at a Marriott on Maui.

How do the private exchanges work? Would a guest certificate be required, I would think so?

Yes, you need a GC.

The private exchanges are as simple as agreeing what you each want/need and then booking that. I suppose there is a chance you could get taken advantage of, but obviously it is very much a matter of getting a good feeling for the other party in phone and email exchanges.

So far it has always gone very smoothly for me.
