Any expats on this thread? Info needed on international health insurance

Just wondering if anyone here is an expat? I have family retiring to Brazil next year, and they're researching healthcare options. Cigna has a pretty good global insurance policy, but it's pricey. Any expats out there in TUGland who can offer recommendations? They have zero health issues, but want catastrophic coverage until local coverage kicks in. Thanks.

Each country is different. I did mine not with an International company but local. In my case I researched several options and age is a factor and pre existing illness. They will need to find out from people living there or ask the Embassy for direction.

There might be an 'association' for ex-pats there, or an English newspaper or newsletter. I think the embassy is also a good suggestion. Also, medical care outside the USA is much cheaper as are medications. I don't hear much about Brazil's (the president just was diagnosed with Covid-19), but I'd have an evacuation policy just in case.

Thanks, everyone. They began their love affair with Brazil as high school exchange students in the 1960's, and have been returning to visit "family" and friends ever since. Brazil just introduced a new residency visa that makes a permanent move there much easier.

They've found a less expensive (like 1/2 price) Brazilian insurance plan, which is accepted by most physicians/hospitals in the area. Evacuation insurance is a good backup plan. Otherwise, I'm their backup plan.

Sometimes banks offer private health insurance and possibly a variety of clinics. I will ask a friend from Brazil and report back.
