Actually, geo, if you compare the number of bites against the millions of opportunities the sharks have every day, odds are really good that you're pretty safe.

I lived on Oahu for five years, and was in the water about every two to three days, year round. I saw a few sharks, but they were much more interested in regular fish, and not me. I wouldn't be too concerned.

This.

First, you're unlikely to get bit.

Second, if you get bit you're unlikely to die.

Sharks don't really seem to like the taste of humans and rarely actually eat us. When they bite, they usually just taste and don't continue to attack.
Cannibals have said that humans taste a bit like pig ("long pig") and that may or may not be true but we probably don't taste much like seal.
