I guess people think retired people have nothing to do. I just finished 2 1/2 weeks of federal jury duty and now I got notice to report for county jury duty.

I'm going to call and ask if the federal duty I served exempts me from county duty but I don't think it does. If the answer is no, I have to request to be rescheduled because I will be away on vacation when I am supposed to serve.

Kay,
When I lived in California, serving on a federal jury or a grand jury exempted you from all other jury duty service for a year.

So I'm crossing my fingers for you. They must love you. I haven't been called since I've lived in Nevada.

Jury duty...

I've been called for small claims court jury duty later this month. Second time and I got out of the last one. I'd actually like to be on an interesting case but small claims????

jury duty

Hi Kay- I think federal does get you out of county. If you're Camden County, there should be a number you can call, and they're very nice.

A few years back in West Valley City (SLC area), a judge sent officers to the shopping mall across the street from the courthouse to round up people to serve as jurors--seems they were short that day and needed more. I didn't know they could do that but apparently they can.

And, Fern, I agree with Shaggy. I think you may have just jinxed yourself. ;)

I called the number for county jury duty this AM. Was told federal jury duty has nothing to do with county duty. I am not exempt. Every 3 yrs for county. I get called every 3 yrs like clockwork.

Since I will be on vacation when I'm supposed to report, hopefully I'll be postponed for a few months. Probably will have to serve in mid winter when I have to worry about driving in snow.

Haven't actually had to sit on the jury at county level so I guess this is my year.

Win a few, lose a few!

I filled out the form honestly and mailed it. I called today and I have been excused. They didn't say anything about rescheduling and I didn't ask. Sometimes things work out.

DH has never been called and I have been called only twice. It is weird how that random drawing thing works. Even at work. There is one woman (who is as clean as a whistle!!) who was picked 5 times last year to go down for a random drug test. Me, the only drug test I have taken was the one I had when I was hired years ago. Wouldn't mind going. I have no worries and it pulls you off your route. You get paid for the full day but only end up working half.
