Just received a phone call on my cell. Caller said "ATT Customer, your Account is being closed. Enter 2 to talk to a Customer Service Representative". What are odds this was a legitimate call. 1 in 10,000? What else will they dream up?

yea, i got a call the other day saying my power was going to cut off in 30 minutes due to non-payment. But i am on autopay, and now everything is current..

They wanted me to call "customer service and provided the number an extension... not a chance

Many electric companies are delaying shutting off power for non-payment. I have Duke Energy in Florida. So, they will still need the month payment + late fees.

Well, the phone calls have started coming in about "a kit that will keep you safe during the Covid 19 emergency". So far we have received two messages asking us to call an 800 number "for our safety kit". I just let it go to voicemail and DELETE.

I report scams, we have a Mayor's Action Center that tries to catch em and prosecute if they can, but usually not enough for them to go on so not reportable. I don't answer either and few leave a message, but I have had a few things like that in the past - the fake Microsoft call, the fake IRS call,..

Chase recently sent me, my mom AND my sister a text about our account being compromised: "click here..." and when you click it looks like legit Chase, btw, but asks for account login PLUS phone number.... such a terrible scam, I can only imagine the total people falling for it! Also, recently tried to change my address via USPS and the first thing that pops up on google is a faker company that charges you $49.95 to change your address vs what USPS charges which is $1.05... I will be filing a complaint with google ;(

BTW, I've gotten an AT&T scam call for a "feedback survey" literally right after I spoke with them. They asked me 3 questions "how satisfied are you with..." and "what could we do different? a) more towers, b) reduce plan costs etc and then they tell you for your time they will give you a $25 gift card, they ask for your number and login (clearly a scam) then try to login as you and order a bunch of phones and nonsense... anyway, be very careful! (don't worry, I was not prey to this, but did take this call and did start down the path of answering the survey). What was interesting to me is that I received this call LITERALLY THE DAY I CALLED IN for actual support to AT&T.... must be an inside person selling off the info of callers..?

I received our first card from a PCC today. I feel part of the club now. They are holding a special event at the Red Lobster in town. I doubt many people will show up for that given that you can now only do carry out or delivery only. Glad they spent all that money on mailers and can't hold the event!

You might want to check with ATT if you are a customer. There is a scam going on in Canada will cell services. A woman I worked with got hit last Friday. She got a text from her cell provider saying her number was being ported to another carrier. She didn't request it. By the time she got through to her carrier's customer service the person requesting the number port (to their phone) had already gotten onto my friend's Facebook page and PayPal account and changed her password. They had already made several attempts to gain access to her online banking as well. Her cell company gave her a temporary number while they helped her with the process to get her number back. She was able to gain back control of her Facebook & PayPal accounts with a great deal of difficulty and then spent all evening changing passwords to her email and every account and online membership she had.

Supposedly its happening quite often in Canada to people that don't have the advanced security of 2 step authorization set up on their cell accounts. My friend and all her family & friends do now!

This may actually be legit, but something for nothing? Email...
Cox Cable says they're increasing our I-net speed w/o charging more.
We don't have to call 'em, just reboot our modem. What?

Give it a try. Not sure what could be nefarious about that. A power failure would do the same thing.

What are the phone calls where you answer the call and no one says anything on the other end and then the call disconnects. Is this a computer system set up to tell a scammer that someone answered the call so they can then use or sell my number to other scammers?

Our internet provider sent an email regarding increasing our speed as well. Because the amount of traffic has increased exponentially in the last week. They are working on getting our buffering fixed. So I would guess this was not a scam. Plus like someone else said a power failure would reboot your modem. Can't hurt to reboot see what happens. (You should reboot periodically anyway, coming from an IT standpoint.)
