Tommy Bartlett ski sky and stage show was set to have its 70th season in Wisconsin Dells but is closing permanently. This show has been on the must see list when visiting Wisconsin Dells. My husband took me to see it in 1969 on one of our early dates. We went every year as they had a locals weekend show and I was a chaperone for the school trips. This has been a big part of the Dells They had seating for At least a couple thousand and said they had a business model if 2250 a day attendance for both shows. Funny thing is they even put on a daily show when lake Delton emptied in 2008

I went to this show multiple times. Back in the 80s if you worked in the Dells I received free tickets for many of the attractions. Sad how things have changed.

Didn’t hear that either. Mahalo for posting. We have been to that many times.

It was a long-standing event there. But it's demise might be as much from people's changing vacationing, and after 70 years, the management might just be tired of keeping up the show. Now, with COVID, it would require being less dense seating, more cleaning, and possibly remodeling their facility. Seems a good time for retirement to me.

When we get back to traveling, we will all find a lot of changes. It's going to be a different world out there than we are used to.

A local Italian restaurant that has been in business for over 50 years in our city has closed for good. This is the restaurant I took my wife to for her High School Prom. It was a popular place for wedding parties, formal type gatherings and dates. Not a place one wore jeans and sneakers.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant which has been in business for over 40 years has also closed. This was a fun place gathering place to meet and wander the city.

These are just two of the places in our area I will miss.

It's not because of COVID. It's because of the lockdowns- how COVID was handled by the government(s).

My niece in Italy lives alone, no television, no car. . Could not even go for a walk, police cars making sure nobody was out for a couple months.

Italy had exactly 1% of the deaths of the US yesterday.

So it may not be your cup of tea, but it employed people and some people obviously paid to go see it. Just because you don't like it, it means no one else should and should be shut down? No one is making you go see it if you don't want to.

I understand.
I'm a fan of the local powerboat races each year which may be permanently cancelled. :(

See, those don't interest me at all. Same with all those, IMO, stupid dinner shows in Orlando. But I wouldn't wish them to close.

Noooo! I have such fond memories of the Tommy Bartlett show.
In the early 80s we attended the show and then went out on the lake with a show member for water skiing lessons (my brothers learned to barefoot from them).

Then we all returned 25 years later with all of our kids. At that show, the “sky and stage” part of the show had not aged well, but the ski show was still really fun. We noticed that in the 25 years since our initial visit, we now had all of the skiing accessories except the hang glider. We have since added a water ski kite to the toys, so I guess that’s close enough.

Thanks for the memories, Tommy Bartlett and Co.!

The optimist in me thinks this will also lead the way for new, hopefully better, changes as well. Stagnation isn't good, but completely disregarding tradition is just as bad.

Last year I went to the show with my Massachusetts son and family. we got tickets because our friends 12 year old son was in the water show. He didn’t get paid because he was underage but he got occasional passes. He wasn’t strong enough to do the pyramid but he did lots of routines. The ski show was fun, the stage show iffy but the Nerveless Nocks have been scaring me without fail.
My five year old grandson never got to see the show. Because he couldn’t stay awake last year. He is growing up in the Dells and will have missed a big one.
noahs ark closed down because of employees having Covid, were only opened a month. Starbucks is closed for two weeks, two restaurants ,and a beauty salon had temporary closing those are the only ones we knew about. many individuals have had it and now two classes at one elementary school have had to go to virtual learning for two weeks

And Sweden had half the deaths of Italy yesterday. What's your point?

Kurt
We were talking Italy though. And many are doing better than the oft mentioned Sweden that does not have the freedumb fighters. And the point is maybe if we listened to experts as Italy did we would be much closer to normal. Or we could have hundreds of thousands more deaths than europe. I know my choice.

I do not line up with the "freedumb fighters" (I like that name!), but it is pointless comparing the raw number of deaths across countries that 1) aren't even close in population, 2) are very different in population demographics, 3) are very different in population density, and 4) are at a significantly different point of the pandemic timeline. Comparing raw numbers to Sweden is just as pointless, hence my tongue-in-cheek response.

However, I don't think Italy should be a model that we should try to emulate. They are very close to the US on deaths/million, and Sweden is right there as well, and just look at the different measures each country took. Can we really say one is better than the other (between Italy and Sweden)?

Tommy Barlett water ski show at Wisconsin Dells - we received free tickets for attending TS presentation during out “mini vacation “ we won probably in 1986. Don’t ask me how that happened. Anyway, we signed the contract and were suspicious right away. We rescind and never regretted. The show was not memorable but I remember how heavily it was advertised in The Dells area.

Many times we left at intermission, but last time we went we stayed for dancing waters. They had cut it so short! You get out pretty late. I was laughing to myself because my husband took me to water show after we had been dating a few weeks. After it we went to a bar in the Dells and met his friends. I laugh because i can barely stay out for the end of the water show now, let alone go out after it.
Another show we used to go to was the Indian Ceremonial which I thought of yesterday as we passed the abandoned site on the upper Dells boat trip.

Don’t feel too sorry, he did three million a year off the show and furthermore he inherited it from tommy Bartlett. The current owner was a grad student when he was hired to manage employees. It was his summer job for years then he bought 25 per cent. When tommy Bartlett died, he left it toTom Diehl.
everyone us waiting to see who is buying the property and praying it isn’t Mt Olympus
Meanwhile I will add my passes to my pile of passes from defunct businesses in the Dells

I've never been (we really need to get to the Dells). But reminds me a lot of Cypress Gardens, in Winter Garden, FL (now Legoland :-( ).
