I was looking at a resale on ebay... the post is a biannual 168,000 points at bonnet creek. I have a few questions.
1. What is the different between annual vs biannual?
2. Do I pay MF every year? Or do I get a break the year I don't get points?
3. Does it matter where I own the timeshare? What is the advantage to your home resort?
4. Is bonnet creek a good home base?
5. I would like a resort in the North east ... that is where I live, but I love to travel! I will go anywhere! But It would be nice to have a home resort close to home....or again DOES IT MATTER?
6. When wyndham builds new resorts, does your trading power go down? How many points should you need to have enough for a family of four to have a great week vacation...anywhere?
7. I know that I will never be VIP on resales. Please tell me in plan english what am I missing if I never become VIP.

OK, one by one...

I'm pretty new to the board, but not to TSing....

1. Bi-annual. You only get the points every OTHER year. So you essentially own 84K points annually this should help with #2.

2. Your M/F have simply been divided in half. If you owned an annual year, you would simply pay double, the same applies to the taxes.

3. Owning at your home resort gives you the ability to reserve there at the 13 month point. You can reserve at any other resort at the 10 month point. So you KIND of want to own where you think you will vacation the most. I own two re-sales and have NEVER seen either place (and have LOW Maint Fees) I have stayed at Bonnet Creek once and this past weekend made a reservation for my kids' spring break in 09 in a 2/2.

4. Good if that is where you want to stay the most often. Are you a Disneyaholic?

5. See #3.

6. No, your trading power does not go down (that I know of) but some weeks are worth more than others. 1 week in a 2/2 at high season in most places can be had for 186K or less points (typically 2/2 in high season in anywhere but the beach or Disney will run about 154K. The spring break week that I just booked was 224K points. Because I don't own at Disney, my M/F are pretty low, I'm essentially paying $932 for a week in a 2/2 (on DISNEY property) during spring break, that's $133/night! Based on Bonnet Creek M/F, my M/F cost would have been $1042 if I owned there (hey, $110 is a meal at Disney)....

7. I'm not VIP and have ONLY bought resale. I'll let somebody else cover the VIP bens....

Good Luck!

ajdon is correct with his answers.

You would be getting Wyndham points every other year; they are easy to use everyother year.

1). If you want to go to a TS every year, then you could rent more Wyndham points from other owners (renting for the year you will be using - unlike that TV cell phone commerical where your "points" do not expire), Wyndham points EXPIRE.

2). You could deposit and exchange thru RCI (your RCI account is every year).

3). Become a T/S junkie and buy more T/S or points.

As for VIP, if you are VIP - you would be just missing many MORE of YOUR dollars. The $35,000-50,000 more of your dollars spent over resale for VIP pays for alot of vacations over the years. You stay at the same resorts, in the same units, and float in the same pools. If you listen to the sales people's babble, resale points are just about the most worthless things you could waste you money on - ONLY because they aren't getting their cut of your hard-earn $$$. The VC,s, front desk people, pools, resorts - won't know how you got your points (or care) ... You will get the same "Welcome to XXYYZZ Resort" and enjoy your vacation just as much.

Hope this helps.

adjon, have you ever used your points at Fairfield Bay? Or, have you always gone elsewhere? Can you combine your two groups of points to get a prime week somewhere else? Sorry to hijack this thread, I am trying to learn more also.

Thanks,
Jo-Ann

I use my points all over the Wyndam system, and only every year @ Bonnet Creek (Orlando), Skyline Tower (Atlantic City,NJ), Bently Brook (MA), Myrtle Beach locations. (I typically can get Bentley Brook, Myrtle Beach, Florida with a 28K / 70 K point week when doing an ongoing search with RCI 1 year or more in advance).

You can combine all your point at 10 month or later period for any resort subject to availability. Some resorts, the prime week is like very few weeks, and they will usually gone. Some has more weeks people will enjoyed, and you can get them at 10 month.

Home resort matters only for trading purposes

Home resort comes into play for only two instances:

1) You want to book 10-13 months in advance of your stay. You get a 3 month window where only people who own at that specific Wyndham timeshare can book. 10 months or less in advance of your travel date, anybody can book anywhere provided they have sufficient points.

2) Exchange membership - most wyndham properties exchange with RCI, however there are a handful (Star Island, Governor's Green) that exchange with II. The resort where you buy your first Wyndham property dictates where your free exchange membership will be. Therefore, if you think that you would want to trade into resorts that exchange through II (such as Disney Vacation Club), you have to make sure that your first purchase is with an II affiliated resort.

Trading power does not decrease when new resorts are built. Points are points. However, you can't be sure how many points are going to be necessary to get a week in the new resort. Personally, I don't think you should worry about future resorts because you will be paying extra maintenance fees for points you may not even need. Buy what you think you need. You can always rent extra points in the future if it becomes necessary.

7. I know that I will never be VIP on resales. Please tell me in plan english what am I missing if I never become VIP.

Not VIP either.

You will get discount at 60 days if you saw a unit available at 60 days or within. A majority of VIP enjoy that

You can get unit ungrade if the lowest unit that requires more point than your unit is available. at 30 days, 45 days 60 days. So in theory, you can get discount on 1 BD and get 4 BD president unit, that is assume when you look at inventory, you see only 1 BD and 4 BD president unit. some VIP does enjoy sucess, mostly are 1 step upgrade (1 Bd to 2 BD, bad view 1Bd to good view 1 BD) type of deal.

Free HK. Most VIP believe they are enjoy this. Although most may not need it at all because the size of their points and the way the travel, it is a peace in mind that there is no such charge.

Free Transactions, avail to gold + VIP. Same as free HK. This two is part of the feeling you are enjoy the travel if you don't want to hand on tracking.

Early checking, this is depends on the resort, and a lot of VIP when they come to resort early, do enjoy it, although I am not sure how many has arrive between 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Request and Hold unit, this is gold + VIP, most of the time, resort do honor that request. Although, in a off season, a good resort will honor all kind of request

11 month reservation, gold+ VIP can make 11 month and 12 month early reservation certain number of times with all their point before 10 month period. Home resort still trump it. Most VIP does take advantage of it.

reservation waiting list at 11 1/2 month. Some do use it, although I will guess they are in the monor.

Free newspaper. Most will tell you it is not necessary, but I believe all will enjoy it.

Put unsed point to credit pool after user year start. This does allow VIP member to delay their decision of vacation since they do have a lot of extra points that can not be consumed.

There are some other small perks, and some resort specific perk for VIP.

It is very well designed level and benefit to allow people that does not want to know believe they can now know nothing, and very good design to allow people know how to take advantage of the system and can consume a lot of points enjoy the program more.

Forget 2 more both need glod + vip

mid week house keep. I think it somehow can satisfy people's vacation feeling. although I do know resort do every day, and resort do mid week any way, I will say everyday do feel much better. But i will guess most VIP does enjoy this
and upgrade one unit in external exchange for blue and white week deposit, so if you deposit a blue stdio, they will upgrade to 1 bd stdio. This is not that great on RCI but very good for II
