We just returned from another great week at OLCC. Of course, this included the new and improved GA sales pitch. I've spent some time searching old threads and haven't seen anything from owners who have converted - and USED - global access so I'm curious.

First, an update. No longer can you pay the ridiculous $2000-5000 fees just to buy in. That didn't work so the developer has instituted the even more ridiculous program where you must buy SOMETHING to gain access to the program. That something will now cost you over 10k minimum. Not only that, they wanted to sell us a 2bdrm unit in the west village which had come back into inventory (imagine, they got the first 15000 years ago and now want and additional 14000!!). I happen to enjoy the privacy of that village and it was a recently renovated unit so this looked good before you thought it through.

We LOVE OLCC and actually signed a contract for this then spoke to other owners. We could fine NOONE, I repeat NOONE that converted to GA. This happened to be the week of the annual Directors meeting so I ask, in public, what the conversion rate is. Guess what - 80% of owners have chosen to retain their weeks. This said it all for me so we cancelled the contract. There happened to be 2 people at this meeting who owned GA and found it confusing and were very dissatisfied (1 had not been able to get back into OLCC on chosen weeks).

We then cancel the contract and they came back with what they felt was a sweeter deal - buying "shares" (no deed) in Wisconsin (the Lake Geneva Orange Lake), amounting to 15000 GA points, which is 7500 RCI points (which probably won't buy me a movie ticket). All for around $4000. WHAT!!?? All to "improve" something we're already happy with!!!!

Now I ask the masses - has anyone converted and USED global access??

Thanx!

I went through the pitch too when I was there in June this year. Can't see where it will be worth it for me and justify the enormous cost. I said no, and of course, they continued the pressure tactic. "Everyone is switching and there will be no more weeks in the inventory to use other than your specific week" was their line. I don't buy it, and signed their form saying I had been given the offer and refused and they will not offer this to me again.

Yes. We got into the GA program when it first came out. We were unable to use our assigned week due to changes in our jobs. We have used the program in 2008 and did not have a problem getting the week or unit we wanted. We are using it again in 2009.

I'd say when you want to add flexibility to your timeshare profile, add a cheapo points program that has lots of locations in it rather than "upgrade" what you already have if you can use what you have at least 1/4th of the time. A points program will give you a few days here and there and will complement your weeks resort without you paying an additional $14K. Heck you can purchase Wyndham pts for little or nothing now...

I also have Global Access and like Tony, got it when it first rolled out. I have used it a few times with no problems. One of my reasoning is that the units I own are at River Island and I expect when all 3 buildings are completed, most of the units will be in Global Access (currently only 1 building is completed, all the new units are sold as Global Access units) making an exchange through RCI into RI more difficult. It may be awhile before this occurs though as the 2nd building should be opening in a few months and who knows when the 3rd building will begin to be constructed. It is a typical points-based program with it unique ins-and-outs like all points-based programs. Like most points-based programs, it is too expensive. I believe Jim (Boca) had suggested that OLCC should have offered it to all owners at $300 per unit in which case I think all owners would have joined.
