Obviously very different between Amex (US) and Amex Canada. I have had an Amex Gold (not even a Platinum) card through American Express Canada for over 35 years. Not only does it earn reward points, but it has always had (and still has) car rental insurance, trip interruption and delay insurance (but not cancellation prior to leaving), emergency medical coverage (if under age 65), lost or stolen luggage and extended manufacturer's warranties on purchases, amongst other benefits. And Amex Canada has not only not kept it a secret, but actively promotes it in their ad campaigns. Very strange that the same parent company operates so differently in the two countries.
