Hoping Alaska Airlines does the same.

They will likely follow. I have the waiver for Alaska but it does us no good to rebook by Dec 31 if we cannot travel then and we don't know our plans. Would like a refund or offer like Hilton Hotels which gives us until August 2021.

Our flights on Alaska are for the end of May. We were supposed to go to Seattle. Right now I couldn't even make any changes without incurring a fee. So I'm waiting to see what they'll do.

I'm also waiting to see if Hilton Hotels can, or will, do anything for me on a non refundable room I booked for someone else (supposed to be for their honeymoon). Right now they have relaxed the rules on these non refundable rooms through the end of April. Their room was booked for May 5/6. It was to be at the end of a cruise, which they cancelled.

We hope Delta will do the same for our cruise in May.
We also need Delta to waive international fees for June...

Oberammergau postponed it's performance of the Passion Play.
It started the play in 1634 to ward off the bubonic plague.
They delayed it until 2022, so I guess the plague can wait.

We have tickets on Alaskan for end of May as well. Still hoping at this point to go but who knows. We used a companion fare voucher and I believe if we cancel we lose it. I will just wait a while and see what happens.

Actually I just looked at Alaska and they have no change fees through May31st travel

We were supposed to go to Seattle. I don't think we feel comfortable that things will be back to normal there. We also used a companion fare and I thought they covered that in their exceptions. I'll have to look at their website again because last time I looked, which was just a few minutes ago it was still through April 30. Ooops, just checked again. Although it says up from April 30 when you go to the actual page with information it's now May 31. However they still show the April 30 date there as well. Seems they haven't updated everything. And I couldn't find what they'd said about companion fares.

We also have companion pass. If we don't rebook and simply cancel do we lose the companion?

I did not see anything in the current waiver but I believe I read something when I booked it that if you cancel you lose the companion certificate

Here is what is on the Alaska Airlines website:

What if I used a companion fare? If you cancel your reservations entirely, and if it included a companion certificate, we will reinstate your certificate with original expiration date or June 30, 2020, whichever comes later. Please call Reservations for assistance with canceling tickets using companion certificates

What I can't find is if you are refunded what was paid to upgrade the tickets. I know I can't call because my flights aren't until May. I'm going to wait for a few days and see if they get things straightened out with the policies and find out what I can do on the website. We're going to just do a straight cancellation.

@Luanne Thanks for the info. Helpful but unfortunately I need to book beyond June 30, 2020. I need mid 2021...Hopefully they will extend this further out given recent info. I find AK to be the last to make a change after the other airlines.

I got all excited because I realized I'd taken out trip insurance. Unfortunately an epidemic isn't covered. Now if one of us were to get COVID-19 we would be. Or, if Alaska Airlines cancels the flight we could get the insurance. So I'm back to wait and see what happens.

Yes. I am in the same situation with event insurance. Fine if we contract Covid but no coverage otherwise. They will happily refund your insurance fee but that doesn't solve your AK problem. There will likely be class actions later and taking the insurance fee will likely exempt you from the lawsuit.

We have paid flights using United at the end of May. Hoping that they follow suite. Even if they do, our problem will be using up any and all credits. We have flights on Southwest to cancel, though those are points so we would just get the points back without limitation. We also then have an August flight on AA (really on BA) to the UK that was $700pp. Those United and AA credits would need to all be used by January 2021. Depending on the situation with Europe come August, we may not be able to fly there or it may not be worth the risk. Of course, I don't know if cancelling a BA flight reserved through AA results in a credit for a future BA flight or any flight booked through AA.

I was just on the Alaska Airlines site, hoping for what I don't know. I found that our return flight from Seattle to Albuquerque isn't being offered any longer. I haven't received an email that the flight has been cancelled, maybe they're just not offering that flight in order to try to limit passengers. Since I really don't want any of us to get sick I'd prefer to use the insurance due to the flights being cancelled.

Please help me understand this. This is from the American Airlines website: The new ticket must be reissued on/before December 31 or 12 months from the original ticket date (whichever is earlier). Travel must also commence on/before December 31 or one year from original issue date — whichever is sooner.

We purchased tickets on October 6, 2019 for travel on May 14, 2020-May 29,2020.

So if I am reading this correctly, I need to rebook a ticket to somewhere no later than Oct 6, 2020 and also travel by Oct 6, 2020. So Oct 6 is my cutoff for everything? Ugh. It was a pricey ticket (San Diego to the BVI's) and it was a Tradewinds trip that isn't happening. So no idea where to go now, not to mention that we have other trips planned in August and September, lol. Tradewinds is allowing rebooking but there are no cabins available when we are willing to go (not hurricane season. Just not going to tempt fate).

Btw I don't want to call and tie up the lines for people who need to talk to someone.

And one more thing. I booked using Chase Ultimate Rewards so I assume that I need to go through them to start the process, correct? Also do you get some kind of a voucher or do I need to cancel & rebook at the same time? Sorry for all of the questions and thanks for any help.

Can't you just get a full refund? Depends on what the new flights they put you on and how much it changes your departure and arrival times.

This is generally how it works, you have to fly by the one year mark of when the ticket was issued.

One flight was on a companion fare. I'd lose that (of course I didn't pay for it). Wonder if I also lose the fee for that flight? I will get the companion pass back, but only good through June 2020. I also paid for upgrades. Do I lose those? I won't be changing the flights.

Sign into your account and look under “my trips - purchased.” Open up your trip and they may have posted something to the effect that “there are changes to your flight. Please call for details.” I have checked ours before, without having received an email, and learned about flight changes. Usually it’s just a small change in departure and arrival times, but sometimes it’s that a flight was cancelled and they booked us on a new flight. I believe you can decline their change and look at potential options.

Best regards.

Mike

Thanks for the tip. So far I don't see any of those notices. They did make a schedule change back in February, and I did get an email about that.

I just received notice that our rooms are canceled...we were doing one of the cheap diamond packages.

When I go to Alaska to cancel the tickets, I can have the fare deposited into my wallet or emailed as a credit. Thee is a box to check that I acknowledge my companion certificate will not be reinstated.

I think I will hold off canceling a while longer...things may change by May 23rd
