Amazing root canal story

I had a root canal 3-4 months ago, but the infection didn’t clear up completely or came back. Here is the amazing part: the oral surgeon gave me a 2nd root canal today, treated the infection, and didn’t charge me ANYTHING! And he will not charge me anything if further treatments are needed!

Something similar happened to DW. She has some sort of oral surgery and the procedure did not end up as intended. The details are fuzzy since I don't recall what was the issue. In the end he refunded part of the fee after we had paid.

There wasn't any pain, just pressure, but I had an abscess on my gum next to the tooth, so we knew it was still infected.

Seriously that's amazing the dentist didn't charge for the second.

I endured a porcelain crown procedure. I chewed it off within 6-months. The dentist re-installed it at no charge. I chewed it off a few months later. I asked about a gold crown. The dentist ordered and installed it at no charge, but another painful drilling procedure. I chewed it off 2 years later after moving in the meantime, gave up, and had the tooth extracted.

My May implant crown came with a written 5-year guarantee, as long as I have 6-month checkups in their office during those 5 years.

This "warrantee work" is not standard procedure for dentists?

I almost want to say I don't care what they charge me as long as the pain goes away. Yikes for the continuing issues, I hope this resolves the infection (and that you are pain free)! (And good that he's standing by his word, but no fun for you)!

My daughter had significant dental work due to a softball injury to her teeth. Her periodontist said come back anytime for "touch ups/trimming" to the gum grafts (they did some funky thing - it was like overgrowth/excessive scarring) and he would shave them down again. Painful but he stood by his work - he said as long as he was practicing he'd do it. That was years ago and overtime they are okay - each time the regrowth was less and less and she's had other work done since as well. But yeah, no charge for the 'touch ups'.

He should. It sounds like he messed up the first root canal.

I have gone back to an endodontist after they messed up a root canal once, by not putting in a 'post space'. I went back to them and showed them the perscription my dentist gave showed that they should have put in a post space. So, they fixed it for free. Their mess up.

Now.. everytime I get a root canal (just had one 2 weeks ago) - I mention post space like 3 or 4X.

Most important question of all. Hopefully you feel better.

Tooth pain is horrible. I had to wait a month for a root canal and I had some nights where it was throbbing when I was trying to sleep. Thank god for advil and oralgel.

I had a dentist goof up my crown back in the 90s after months of pain, he was very blase about it and I switched dentists. She replaced the crown but I had trouble with it consistently and eventually I had cancer in the gums surrounding it

Re the cancer, I was sent to oral surgeon who charged me $1800 four years ago to remove the irritated area. He sent in to get biopsy which cost $600 more. Only that biopsy was covered by my health insurance. Then before radiation, I had to see an oral surgeon for an ok and another $400 not covered. I mention this because last month I was sent to oral surgeon because of suspicios growth on my tongue. the receptionist told me to get my doctor to make a referral and the cost was completely covered, so make sure if situation ever comes up, get the medical referral.

I have a dental practice I've been going to for over 40 years....The original dentist retired about 25 years ago and the young dentist he brought in 30 years ago is closing in on retirement. This guy has been very generous in working with me when I've had crowns break after a short period of time and also on another issue related to an implant that failed (he didn't do the implant). I think it drives his business manager nuts. He did bring a partner in about 10 years ago, so there is a succession plan if he does decide to retire.

I had a similar experience with a bridge a couple years ago. I had to have a tooth pulled and instead of getting an implant, I opted for a bridge. My regular dentist was not available and someone else in the clinic put it in. About 3 months later, the crown broke while I was eating. I made sure my dentist got assigned and he did the procedure over again and made sure I wasn’t charged.

I saw an endo who did a 3D CT of the tooth- it was cracked- the root canal weakens the tooth and my bite was off due the crown not being adjusted correctly. Probably was causing micro fractures. So many things I WISH I had known before all of this...... anyway....hope everything works out for your tooth!

I had same experience twice already about ten years ago. My newest dentist recommended a root canal after my first visit three years ago. I said no and ended with extraction just two months ago. Waiting for implant work to start in November.

My most recent root canal has been sending me warning signs, and it is on the chewing side
I was always stoical about dental work but since the cancer I can’t open my mouth completely. Ever a cleaning is torture
They had to pull four teeth and the bridge because of cancer around them, two new crowns and two perfectly fine teeth were pulled. No place left for an implant. I can’t afford to lose any on the other side.

My last dental work was an implant and crown. While on a trip, a bump formed on my gum over the implant and above the crown and popped when I was eating a Dorrito. The chip was too big and scraped my gum. I called and sent pictures to both the dentist office and the periodontist office. Both were concerned about infection which made me nervous.

By the time I got home to see the periodontist the bump was gone. The periodontist thought something might have lodged where the gum, implant and crown met and said to floss with a different diameter floss.

Usually it seemed to cost $300 to see the periodontist for anything but this appointment was free.

How do you chew? There must be something unique!

I like a good steak dinner a couple times a month, but all three crowns dislodged chewing relatively soft foods. One of the porcelain crowns in particular was just a slice of pizza. It felt like the crown bonding agent just "let loose" for all three crowns.

Lesson learned, for me -- no more tooth crowns! Use the tooth until it fails. If it "mission critical" then an implant. If it is a backmost molar -- fuggetaboutit.

Four months into my fully completed second bicuspid implant (mission critical tooth, imo), it is soooo worth the one year process and $5,000-ish cost for tooth extraction (surprisingly minimal pain for me during and after), cadaver bone grafting to the jaw (the surgeon was entirely honest and informative) to fill the missing tooth gap, subsequent implant post placement (now THAT hurt, even with local anesthesia, during and after), and 6 months later, a crown installed by my dentists (she did a GREAT JOB! -- and completely painless without anesthesia.) The crown was created from a digital image -- no "impression casts" like the previous crown attempts.

What really cracked me up was when the dentist tightened the crown to the implant using the tiniest torque wrench imaginable!

I am chopping away using the implant and it feels stronger than my natural teeth!
