I booked an RCI reservation in 2019 with my 2019 points for a May of 2020 vacation. Due to the virus, it is now cancelled and I have to pay $139 dollars to deposit them into RCI or lose them. Any ideas if I'd be able to dispute this $139 charge from HGVC?

When you cancelled did you just do it online or did you call? I found out the hard way that I needed to call to cancel a booking in order to get the $139 credit so I could re-book. I was able to get it taken care of though. Call RCI, not on the weekend, but during the week. A vacation rep or someone in customer care can fix it for you.

Now, I'm talking about a week, not points so I don't know if the cancellation policy was the same. Just checked, they are the same policy. This is what is on the RCI website:

RCI is committed to providing you flexibility at this uncertain time. You may cancel Points and Weeks reservations for travel through June 15, 2020 and receive 100% of your Points or Trading Power back for a future reservation.

  • When cancelling a reservation for travel through June 15, 2020 no exchange fee will be required if you rebook your cancelled vacation by December 31, 2020 for future travel. Please contact a Vacation Guide via Phone or Chat to process your request.
  • If you have Trading Power or Points expiring and prefer more time to plan or travel, speak to one of our Vacation Guides for additional options.

If you would like to cancel and rebook call 1-800-338-7777 (RCI Weeks), 1-877-968-7476 (RCI Points)- Monday-Friday 8AM-8PM and Saturday 8AM-5PM, chat with us on RCI.com or complete the cancellation form

Luanne: The OP is talking about HGVC charging a fee to save 2019 HGVC points.
Not a booking credit. As such, he needs to be talking to HGVC (IMHO), not RCI.
----------------------
"It is now cancelled" doesn't tell us if the resort cancelled or if the OP cancelled.
Either way, the cancellation means that the 2019 HGVC points are now "expired."
The only way to save the 2019 points is to deposit them to HGVC's RCI Program.

What I think the OP is saying is that HGVC should waive the fee for this.
Seems logical to me. But he'll prolly have to call HGVC and speak to a supervisor.

Guess I was confused by this statement "I booked an RCI reservation in 2019 with my 2019 points". Since RCI uses both weeks and points I assumed the OP was talking about RCI points.

Thanks for the responses. I called HGVC and after getting nowhere with the first rep, I requested a supervisor. After some discussion with the supervisor, he finally requested our cc# that was charged and I believe I'm getting a refund, however I'll have to watch for that to happen. I'm very disappointed that this wasn't just done on their own due to the situation, but they like all their little charges - don't they! Thank you again for all the great responses! Stay safe!!!

They've been waiving a lot of their charges during this time and going above and beyond to make accommodations. I'm hard-pressed to look at one specific situation as a general indicator.

Cheers.

I have the same issue that I'm planning to cancel my June New York City reservation later this week. I'll let you know if I have the same experience.

I just called today since it is now within the 30 day time period, I had previously called in April and was given the same options as the OP. Today I got a credit for a future RCI reservation and HGVC credited the points to my 2020 account. No issues and the rep was very pleasant on the phone.
