Richard, Thanks for sharing this article. We enjoy walking the shoreline in South Carolina. This is not good news IMHO.

Saltwater is not good for alligators and typically they avoid it.
Having had a poor experience, this juvy will likely not be back.

When we have visited HHI and especially on Shipyard Plantation. we have seen alligators laying around the golf courses. Good to know that hate saltwater. Personally, I have seen golfers, early in the morning picking up golf balls around the the various golf courses lagoons. No way is a golf ball that important to me.

So true. We stayed in Shipyard a few times and were warned not to get too close to the edge.

Suggestions only, if you want to take a photo of an alligator. Please use a telephoto lens / settings on your Camera. Please take the photo from a distance. Please do not walk up on any wild animals. Suggestions only.

These suggestions may save your life.

From the article ...

... Her friend yelled for her to come back, as the alligator had snatched a deer from the shore only days prior. “I don’t look like a deer,” Covert reportedly retorted. When she tried to touch the reptile, it grabbed her left leg and pulled her into the water... (bold face added)

I know I should not make light of this, but do we have a nominee for next year's Darwin awards?

Apparent;y, she forgot that social distancing goes double for gators.

Signs posted at Flora-Bama Restaurant on the border show how far apart
people should stand to maintain social distancing — an alligator's length.
