Alice Brock, the woman who inspired Arlo Guthrie's Thanksgiving classic "Alice's Restaurant," has died, Guthrie confirmed on Friday.

Ironic, isn't it, that she died just before Thanksgiving. Because, of course, "it all started two Thanksgivings ago, was on - two years ago on Thanksgiving, when my friend and I went up to visit Alice at the restaurant".

I remember one year driving to Thanksgiving dinner at my in-laws an hour away, and heard Alice's Restaurant on the radio twice.

Brock moved away from West Stockbridge because she didn't want to be accused of being the reason for every local youth who tried cannabis. If I recall correctly she moved to the Hudson Valley, and then to Provincetown.
