Please note that currently there is a technical problem with waitlisted reservations being filled before the days are placed on the website for anyone to reserve them.
I made a waitlisted reservation using Destination Club Points in mid-September and have checked the MVC website periodically to see whether some of the waitlisted days show up. On Thursday I was both happy and shocked to see all of the days on the website. Happy, because I was able to put the days on hold -- shocked because I had not received notification that my waitlisted reservation had cleared. I called customer support and they couldn't understand how this happened. They told me to complete the reservation for the days and they would return the points that I had used originally to put the reservation on the waitlist. Fortunately I had enough points to do this.
I was transferred to a very helpful supervisor who also couldn't understand the situation and she promised to follow up. A few minutes ago she wrote:
"It has come to our attention with the help of your report and 4 other Owners that there is an error on the waitlist process technically and this has been sent to our headquarters technical support team for further correction of the system error. The system isn’t holding the inventory for the waitlists to be filled, it is dropping right into the website inventory and that is what the technical support team is working on to correct."
I was very generously compensated with Marriott Rewards Points -- and the DC Points that were used for the waitlisted reservation were returned to me (to replace the points that I used) -- so there is "a happy end" to my personal story and I have no personal complaints, given the compensation.
I want to alert anyone else who is waiting for a waitlisted reservation to be filled that he/she should check online on the Marriott Vacation Club site to be sure that the days that were requested have not become available for reservation.
If I receive an further update from the supervisor about the resolution of the technical problem, I will post it on TUG.
