Alert: Problems with Waitlisted Reservations Using Destination Club Points

Please note that currently there is a technical problem with waitlisted reservations being filled before the days are placed on the website for anyone to reserve them.

I made a waitlisted reservation using Destination Club Points in mid-September and have checked the MVC website periodically to see whether some of the waitlisted days show up. On Thursday I was both happy and shocked to see all of the days on the website. Happy, because I was able to put the days on hold -- shocked because I had not received notification that my waitlisted reservation had cleared. I called customer support and they couldn't understand how this happened. They told me to complete the reservation for the days and they would return the points that I had used originally to put the reservation on the waitlist. Fortunately I had enough points to do this.

I was transferred to a very helpful supervisor who also couldn't understand the situation and she promised to follow up. A few minutes ago she wrote:

"It has come to our attention with the help of your report and 4 other Owners that there is an error on the waitlist process technically and this has been sent to our headquarters technical support team for further correction of the system error. The system isn’t holding the inventory for the waitlists to be filled, it is dropping right into the website inventory and that is what the technical support team is working on to correct."

I was very generously compensated with Marriott Rewards Points -- and the DC Points that were used for the waitlisted reservation were returned to me (to replace the points that I used) -- so there is "a happy end" to my personal story and I have no personal complaints, given the compensation.

I want to alert anyone else who is waiting for a waitlisted reservation to be filled that he/she should check online on the Marriott Vacation Club site to be sure that the days that were requested have not become available for reservation.

If I receive an further update from the supervisor about the resolution of the technical problem, I will post it on TUG.

Same waitlist issue

About a month ago I had waitlisted a unit, a week later I found the dates I was on the list for available. I immediately called a VOA and they grabbed the dates and took me off the waitlist. I questioned how the dates could become available to reserve when there was a waitlist, I wished I had pursued the issue. I wonder how many others have been sitting on a waitlist while the dates they wanted have come available and been booked.

It's happened to me a few times. Once I waitlist I always start checking 2-3 times a week until I find what I want or the waitlist comes through. I've never kept track but I'd say it's about 50-50 that I grab reservation off the website before I'm notified that my waitlist was filled.

To be fair about it though I do grab individual days as they pop up which might prevent the software from fulfilling my request for an entire week.

For 2016 no waitlisting was required for what I reserved.

Thanks for your post. We used the wait list earlier this year for one additional night at MKO and it came through about a month after making the request. I didn't even think about this possible issue. Thanks for working through it with MVC so they can take care of it.

Cheers.

I was informed today (by the Marriott Supervisor who dealt with my complaint) that the technical problem processing waitlisted Destination Club timeshare reservations has been resolved.

Personally, I would still recommend checking the MVC website, but I think that there is reason to be hopeful that in future all waitlisted reservations will be filled before the requested days appear as available on the website.

After reserving my week 52 the other day, I asked to check on my DC request for next July. I was put on hold and then told that I did not have a request. I had requested and was told in August that I was on the wait list.

This was my first DC waitlist. I didn't verify it on line and don't know what happened. I thought I was on the waitlist. I don't know if the request was never set up or if it was cancelled. Of course, this will not happen again since I will be checking and on top of this in the future.

The request is now added. I see my first check in date online. How do I know if all my dates are added. Do I need to call and ask another rep what my requested dates are? I can only see the one date online.

When you are put on the waitlist with DC points, the points are deducted from your point balance (which is meant to guarantee the reservation as soon as the dates become available).

Did they deduct points for one day or for all of the days that you requested? You should be able to see this in the my-vacationclub.com website if you press the "Transaction History" tab under the Vacation Club Points Summery Box (on the "Review or Book My Vacation" page). The number of points that are being held for the reservation will be listed at the bottom of your transaction history, under the heading "Wait List Pending Transactions". If you have any doubts, you should call. I hope that this helps.

Thanks. I do see that I am on the waitlist now. I don't know what happened in the past. The waitlist just shows a request for July 4th. I requested any checkin day beginning on July 4th through July 13th. I can't tell online if my request is only for the one date or for multiple checkin dates. I'll call and ask.
