I just got an invitation from Alaska Airlines to attend a dinner at a prominent Vancouver restaurant as "one of our most loyal credit cardholders". It appears to be a complimentary 4-course dinner complete with wine... Has anybody ever gone to one of these?

I will bet anything that this is not sponsored but Alaska Air at all - it's someone stealing the name to sell something.

What does the fine print say?

Did you google the phone number?

I originally thought it was nefarious but upon closer inspection it does seem to originate from Alaska Airlines. Here's the LinkedIn profile of the sender: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/carmen-rendoni/5b/2b3/222

I'll save and link the email image when I get home from work... It all looks very official though (and I work with info systems and websites for a living).

Just seemed a little strange to me since I don't think of myself as a particularly high spender on my Alaska card, but perhaps there aren't too many big spenders in the Vancouver area for whom this is the card of choice. I was also unaware that these loyalty dinners were even a thing. The timeshare user in me is always suspicious of a free meal...

It is real. I read a review yesterday on a blog. It included pictures of the dinner that was provided at the Canlis? in Seattle. Apparently it was very successful, and Alaska decided to offer more of them. Here's a link to the review.http://www.travelcodex.com/2015/10/...utm_campaign=Feed:+travelcodex+(Travel+Codex)

Interesting, but I'm sure not blasting off 25k points to take my wife out for dinner. There's no mention of payment in my invitation, I guess I'll have to rsvp and see what happens.

I totally agree, that's a lot of points. Your invite says nothing about points though, and it sounds like a wonderful evening for the price. You can't beat free!

I wouldn't spend points but free is good.

Have you checked Flyertalk's Alaska board? They're usually pretty in the know with things.

It doesn't say it's free, either. I'm guessing they spring the cost when he calls or emails.

the article says 12,500 per person

At one penny per point (which is what Alaska gives you when you redeem points for reduced air fare) that's $125/person for the meal. Which is probably a good price, if that type of dining is something that interests you.
