Lost a close friend whose service is on 12/27. When looking at tickets some offer a discounted price 'with restrictions' but no details until after entering all of your information. (Last minute Christmas weekend tickets are high as would be expected.) Has anyone tried this? Is it safe? Are you locked in even if the details don't fit your needs? We are advanced planners normally so this is new to us. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide their experience.

I would call the airline directly.

Hi,

Some airlines offer compassionate or bereavement fares. Call their reservations number directly, doesn't hurt to ask. Some carriers will ask for proof from the funeral home, etc. May be limited or nil inventory when you want to travel in late Dec.

Regards,
Paul

Thanks. DW wanted to know what would happen if we submitted the information to see what the restrictions etc were. I told her chances were good no one on TUG would try something like that. She has called about bereavement fares in the past but we've actually been able to find cheaper fares on airlines which don't offer them. Won't hurt to try again however.
Thanks again for the suggestions.
