I know it's still a long way off, but... I need airfare for 4 in October 2006 and was wondering what would be a fair price to fly from Columbus, OH to PV (I've never been to Mexico). I have been watching the airfare rates since I booked at the end of October and they have been high (averaging around $650). United has a new rate of $430 plus taxes and fees (another $100) and I'm not sure whether to grab this or wait since I'm still 9 months from the travel date.

I'd take it. We booked our next Thanksgiving PVR flights from the west coast the day they became available. Within 2 days the prices had gone up and then 2 days later they went up again. Maybe they will drop but last time we went I waited for fares to drop and ended up paying as much for a lousy itinerary with two stop-overs as I could have gotten the non-stop for originally. I'm not sure why these particular flights are so expensive. There are lower cost carriers (Sun Trips is one) that do not have flight times that work for us.

From Pgh......it's over $950. It has consistently gone up in the last few years. That's for high season...Feb, March. that's on American. and we booked this past summer for this Feb trip.

I have found airfare usually drops in October for flights in Jan, Feb. This is from Detroit. Last summer they were in the $700 range and later we were able to book for $450 through Cheapflights. Waiting depends on your stress tolerance.

PV airfare

Living 60 miles n. of Pgh, we have gone to PV out of Cleveland for about 399 thru Apple Vacations buying just air only since we own timeshare there. I have seen it at 499 and up. Yes the airfare has gone up and that is one reason we don't go there anymore.

Of course this was in January but as a previous post, I believe airfares come down in October. The price you have now is still not bad. They have gone up so much over the years.

Are you dealing with airlines directly?

When I booked last July's trip in March, I used RCI travel and flew AeroMexico. They beat out any airline and even all the travel websites by at least $50/pp. :D

We live in Ct- was looking at prices for PV for this July/Aug- saw prices as low as $520-leaving out of Boston and in mid $600's leaving from NY. Was surprised how high flights were to there. Good luck- I'm still checking daily-sometimes 3x per day. Would love to go to PV this summer(son is graduating high school) but with college costs-find it hard to spend that kind of $$ on flight for 4 of us. Of course if stall too long-then exchange will become more difficult and/or hotels get booked. Did you try with diff day of the week flights? I'd rather spend add'l $$ on an extra hotel night and add to vacation time than to spend it on flight.

Thank you all. You've convinced me to go ahead and buy these tonight at $415 plus taxes and fees from United. I'll keep checking and hoping for a price drop... since I'm buying from United, they said if I see that the fare drops they'll credit my cc.

Don't forget you'll about $35 a tcicket in fees. Mexico collects the entrance fee up front. Other countries make you pay when you try to leave.

Is that in addition to the approximate $100 in fees and taxes that I paid when I purchaced the tickets?
