Airfare from PHX to Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan?

Why is the airfare so high from Phoenix to these cities in Mexico? Are there any charters I shoul be looking at in the area? The month I want to travel in sometime in June 2006.

I am asuming - something that I don't like to do - that you are referring to a Saturday to Saturday stay. I was finding fares at $439, which does seem a bit high. A stay to Monday, didn't yield a very big savings - at least not enough to justify. Wednesday to Saturday was even worse, which isn't typical. It must be that oil prices have risen so much in recent weeks, the flight prices are following.

Sunshine, Yes I tried all the different combinations also. Nothing is booked for rooms yet. Everything will depend of airfare. Maybe things just need to settle down a bit. Mainly I wanted to know if any charters flew out of the area. In the midwest we have Funjet-Apple.
