We get ground bees every year. My "ant man" who services the yard said they're aggressive type from south of the border. I'm an avid gardener and have gotten into their nests. Neighbors have had their horror stories. So far no full body swarms. Last year DH was working in yard and unknowingly got into nest and started feeling sting on his legs. He saw what was happening and began to run. Luckily he tripped and fell to ground and knocked some off. The stings he had were painful.

When I garden I need to proactively look ahead to see if a handful are coming and going from ground or rock wall. We spray when we find them.

While in NC with DD it was red ants. I can see someone or some animal being seriously ill or dying from a mess of bites. I was standing in a bed while planting yellow flowers by her mail box. Had on sandals. 5 stings. Every day they got worse and turned to blisters. Before we left I was tending the flowers by front walk (yellow again for SIL's deployment homecoming). Sandals again. I was on the walkway but one must have run over to give me what for. I felt it that day but every day since it got worse. Best thing I've found so far for treatment is Trim Healthy Mama Bountiful Balm. https://store.trimhealthymama.com/product/bountiful-balm-multi-purpose-skin-fix-2oz/.

To control the ants I was digging into the ant beds and dumping with diatomaceous earth.
