We are driving to PV this year and would like to tour the Copper Canyon along the way. We will be coming from the east coast (NY) driving the southern route. (route 10). We are looking for advise as to the best place to cross the border and get to the Canyon. We will spend about 3 days touring the canyon and then onto PV. We are not sure whether to start in Los Mochos or Chihuahua. Thanks Judy

Drive from El Paso across the border and on down to Chihuahua. Stay overnight in Chihuahua...there's an interesting historical museum. Are you going to take the train through the Copper Canyon or drive? I took the train (but that was the visit I took buses after parking my car in El Paso.) I don't know anything about touring the Copper Canyon by car...but I'll bet you can get tips from Lonely Planet or some such adventure guidebook. In Los Mochis you can head south to Tepic which would make a good overnight. Then on to PV.

I'm curious...how much time do you have? This sounds like quite the adventure! I just now googled and found this interesting site: http://www.citi-guide.com/mexico/m-coppercanyon.asp

Have a safe and fabulous journey!

Hi Carol,
We already have a trip plaanned out of San Antonoi to Vegas (by air) from Jan 6th and return on the 9th. We will leave San Antonio on the 10th. We are meeting friends at Villa del Pamar on the 17th in PV. We already told them we may be a day or so late. We figure to be in Chichahua on the 12th. Take the train and spend one night in Diversadero. Go to the end and then back. We know it's 14 hours back. Then drive onto PV. At least 3 days from there. We will be spending 6 weeks in PV. One full month at Paradise Village which we love. We are thinking about hooking up with a four day tour thru the Canyon but not sure yet. There is a route 16 we can take across to the coast but not sure if it is a good idea in the winter because it goes through the mountains and the threat of snow exists. We are still gathering informatiion. Judy
