We purchased a program from HGVC in February 2011 at the Marbrisa resort with 4,200 points (EOY) plus 6,800 bonus points. Due to our family situation, and my job being transferred, we have not been able to schedule any vacations to date. If we would decide to move on, I'd like to know what other members might recommend in terms of selling the program, potential buy-back, etc.

Your post may be construed as advertising and taken down. But for now...

Whatever you paid for this, you'll find that the resale market is dismal and may not score more than $1/point. If they do offer to buy-it-back, you'll likely receive much less. Also those bonus points won't transfer. Your best bet may be to learn how to effectively use your points.

Check out what these packages sell from HGVC resale specialists:

Seth Nock ... See: http://www.sellingtimeshares.net/

Whatever you do, do not pay anyone an upfront fee to list/market/sell your program. Its a scam. Reputable brokers take a commission from the proceeds.

Potential Buy Back?

I am unsure what you mean by a potential buy back? Please explain. Do you want to offer the usage of your unit to someone say on a yearly basis, until your situation improves?

Here's an alternative to selling? Selling is a tough thing to do, because you get so little in exchange for what you have paid that you feel bad for a long time.
You can look into holding onto the property and reserve a prime summer week and rent it out on Tugg or craigslist and cover at least your maintenance fee. If it does not rent, than deposit it into RCI and you have 24 months or more to book a vacation and after all you usage period is EOY. So you manage to simply manage your vacation usage.

What I don't understand is how moving effects your usage. Where ever you move, I expect you still plan on a week's vacation, and through RCI there is a local drivable destination resort if you want to keep your vacation costs low, and if not, simply travel to a much nicer resort by plane. I think you need to read more about how to get the most out of timesharing and going to different resorts and planning ahead. There is no question times are rough now, but I am suggesting a way to get through this period and to hold onto your unit.

I think you have a opportunity to work on.

Richard has a good point. If you can cover your MF's by renting it can eliminate the financial burden. Snagging a 1BR in Hawaii (borrowing points) would be a good thing to look into and of course Mabrisa, prime or shoulder weeks. Try for the week before Platinum. It takes less points and still has some higher demand than other times during the Gold season. It worked very well for me in Hawaii...

Is the TS paid off?

Newbie Seeking Advice on Divesting HGVC Points

Could the senior members of TUG please help advise me on the best way to maximize selling/renting our points? My better half has been unable to work for a while due to illness which is complicating our situation.

[details deleted - see post #1]

I have searched many threads in the website, and found some interesting information, but would like to have someone that is experienced address our specific situation b/4 I finalize anything.

You received some good advice in Dec. - I merged your threads, just in case you missed it.

Is it paid off?
If you still have a loan, it is almost impossible to sell, Hilton will not buy back your week either.
If it's fully paid for, you can contact Judi or Seth who are reputable Hilton brokers.
If you are still paying for it, maybe it would be better to rent your week/points.
Hawaii or summer Marbrisa can be rented easily.

Grand Pacific Resorts has a "resale department" that can assist current owners in finding new owners and help you sell your unit to someone else if you wish to sell. The caveat is of course that your unit is paid-in-full and maintenance fees are current. If that is the case, contact the sales department at Grand Pacific Resorts and see if they can assist you in this effort. Best of luck.
